Centerpieces...love them, don't care for them?

Erika*, on December 20, 2013 at 11:57 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 37

What are you doing for centerpieces, or what did you do? What is the best centerpiece you have seen and the worst?

I'm not sure what we're doing. I don't really care for them, but I think the table will look plain and empty without them. FH and I keep jokingly telling people that we're just going to get buckets with ice and beer for the centerpieces lol. People actually keep saying they love that idea though. o_O

As for worst centerpiece, it has to go to these twig things that were in glass bowls. I think the idea they had was good, but got lazy in making them. There were jewels hanging from them, but you could really see the glue that was on the jewels. Strings of glue were on the branches too. Best centerpiece, I've liked all the ones I've seen with fresh flowers and tea light candles.

Here is a mock up of mine! Mine will be a little different. The moss matt will be gone, and there will be added succulents and mushrooms. In the mercury glass holders, I will have t-lights surrounding it Smiley smile

I haven't been to a wedding where I hated the centerpiece. However, I see people on tv and stuff and they use beta fish. I HATE THAT!

Kim K I absolutely love yours!! Are you putting anything underneath instead of the moss?

Edit: beta fish!! I would probably want to take that centerpiece home lol, but I wouldn't do that! What if someone accidentally spilled the centerpiece!!

I love real flowers. We're doing mismatched vases with them. I've seen books and candles. I think those are nice. I really don't like the fake pearls draped over things.

    Love those Kim!!!

Im doing lanterns and wooden logs with just a touch of flower accents. I also need to find candles to put inside... I'm probably going with battery operated for those just because our venue requires candles be in a container but the lanterns look so much better with pillars so I want battery operate pillars (if I can find them on sale)

    My inspiration:

I had one wedding where we had to have the centerpieces be removed because they were too tall and every time someone would touch the table, they would sway and threaten to fall over. They were very pretty but no one wanted to get drenched in water. I loved my cousins centerpieces, they were very low river scenes with moss, small orchids, water and river rocks. Absolutely beautiful.

I wanted to add to - at one wedding the bride had huge candelabras in the center of the tables, and each of us got wax in our drinks and our food! It was so gross... Plus they had votive candles on the railing next to your seat (we were on a balcony) and I think 6 of them fell on the people below when people above accidentally touched them. We ended up blowing our candelabra out about half way through dinner.

For mine I collected all different plain white pitchers for each table and we're just going to use those like this, with different flowers

Thanks! We might put lace mats under it, but it may or may not be in the budget. Our table cloths are a dusty rose so the green should pop against it!

My mom is a florist and I have helped her at her shop since I was a little kid so I definitely know a thing or two about flowers and centerpieces. One of my favorite centerpieces I ever helped my mom with actually wasn't flowers. The bride had candles in tall hurricane vases with clear gems at the base. It was understated but beautiful and around the hurricane she just had flower petals.

Another favorite of mine is using fresh cut citrus in a vase. It adds a splash of color and also smells amazing mixed with flowers! This isn't the best representation but this was the first picture I could find!

We're not doing anything crazy. i attached a photo of the floral idea. we're doing low, full floral in square wooden boxes. (the flowers will be different than in the photo, but similar shape and texture... just matching the flowers we chose for our wedding.) and having 3 candles in mason jars surrounding it. i haven't decided what i'm gonna do for table numbers yet... probably just little painted wooden numbers or something.

This is a pic of the candelabra that my venue provides. I think it's gorgeous and am so glad they provide them at no extra cost. I'll probably add something small on the table around it, like votives or something like that.

Some people add flowers to them (second pic) so we may do that as well to some of them.

We did fresh flowers in mismatched vases with tea lights around them and I loved it! It was simple and inexpensive!

This is a pic of our venue's standard centerpieces that are included with our package. They will add votive candles.

Honestly I don't know! My wedding planner/decorator is handling that so I'm not sure what they will look like! I am sending her pictures of what I like but I don't know what she's planning on doing! Smiley surprise

We are doing in-season fresh flowers with 2 mason jars and 1 unique vase/bottle. The largest Mason jar will hold an arrangement, the smaller Mason jar will have a floating candle, and the vase will hold a single stemmed flower. Its a country wedding on a farm and we are using all of my late great uncle's old blue Mason jars and vintage vases/bottles

**Eta: I know that mason jars have been really over done lately but I think that the sentimental part really makes them important to my family and our wedding

Mine are very plain, but I think they go with the nautical feeling of our wedding - at least I hope so. We are also using navy and white striped runners on the tables.

We're doing pumpkins, some carved, some not.

FH's cousin's mother is very crafty and made all their wedding decorations. The centerpieces were simple vases with blue beads and a candle underneath which illuminated the beads - very pretty!

The worst I've seen was at my cousin's...we're not close (family drama) but she got married this past October. Not saying she tried to copy,* but after our aunt casually mentioned to her that I was thinking of doing pumpkin centerpieces, my cousin purchased a bunch of cheap glitter pumpkins and put them on all the tables. They looked like they should have been used for a kid's Halloween party, not a wedding!

*OK maybe I do think she was trying to copy :]

We're doing something like this. We're having birdcages (2 on a table) with a wreath of baby's breath around each one. We are also having votive candle holders in the birdcages with a bouquet of cream flowers.

All of these centerpieces are so nice!!

I was thinking of doing something with pumpkins because our wedding is in October, so I'm thinking a fall theme. I'm not sure what to do though.

Love the lighthouse. FH is in the navy so anything remotely nautical I love!! Smiley smile

    @Wifey, those are cuuuuute.

    These are inspiration for me:

ETA: Not tall centerpieces (not for me), but I like the idea of pearls either in the vase, or cascading down.

@Erika, you could always do some type of grapevine baskets with seasonal flowers in them. I don't know if you're going for short or tall, but I considered a Fall wedding, and here's what I liked.
