Centerpieces Ettiquette

Do guests typically take the centerpieces home? My parents say yes, but that sounds odd to me.

I hope they take mines, I only want the decor that will be on the sweetheart table.

People can take centerpieces. Just let them know not to take the vases.

My mom has said this. Every wedding I've been to she asks if I took one. I find it odd too, but if we do center pieces I'll make sure they aren't rented and are available.

If guests don't take the flowers and you have a lot left over, there are charities like "Random acts of Flowers" that will take them and deliver them to nursing homes and hospitals.

Ours will be lanterns (see sketch), but the various pieces won't be attached together. Most of our guests are coming from out of town, and my parents want me to figure out a way to attach everything together so the guests can more easily take the items. I think this is ridiculous personally. I highly doubt that any guest will want to fly home with a 10-lb wooden log slice (theyre thick and quite heavy)

I'm having my wedding over 1,000 miles away from where we currently live. I am going to either tell them to take them, or give them to my fsil to resell. Lol

We encouraged our guests to take them home. I don't think anyone would have taken it without our permission.

If you are renting the vases, make sure you put a label at the bottom "property of --------"

Also check with your florist which vases are included in the price and which are not.

One thing that pissed me off was one of my guest saw a totally random person taking a vase from aisle decorations after the ceremony. What in the actual heck would someone do that for??

It's an old tradition. Noone really does it anymore. But if that's something you plan on doing, then a twist could be to put on a piece of paper "centerpiece winner" (or whatever), tape that underneath 1 chair at every table. Then towards the middle or end of the night, the DJ or someone can announce everyone to look underneath their chairs and whoever has that paper takes home the centerpiece.

I would really hope none of my guests would take them without asking first. I'm renting compote bowls and votives from my florist and I would be PISSED if I ended up having to pay for that because someone decided they wanted a centerpiece.

Most of the weddings I've been to the centerpieces were taken. Like it was part of the deal that somebody would get to take them. Like as another gift to your guests.

I can totally see where it would be a bad thing with florists and venues owning the glasswork.

I've heard a few stories of guests taking home the centerpieces the newlyweds /rented/ and it cost them to replace. Thankfully the centerpieces FH and I are doing we don't mind anyone taking. We won't have the room to keep them tbh, and I'm sure some of our friends will want them

It's normal. Unless you don't want them to for specific reasons. Usually the only good reason is because they are rented.

I've been to both weddings where guests take centerpieces and they don't. Usually a mom or aunt is running around making this known to everyone that they can take them. ETA I don't plan on letting my centerpieces go.
