Celebration of the Marriage Invitation Wording

BeachDreams, on November 27, 2016 at 5:42 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 25

My FH and I are having an intimate (six guests) DW and then having a fully hosted celebration of the marriage party in our home state. Most of our family and friends are aware of our plans. I am trying to find the best invitation wording. Below are some samples that I have found. Thoughts?

1)

We, NAME and NAME,

will be married in a

private wedding ceremony

on DATE

You are joyfully invited to their

wedding celebration

after the wedding at TIME

ADDRESS

CITY, STATE

2)

Together with their families

NAME

and

NAME

request the pleasure of your company

at the celebration of their marriage

TIME

ADDRESS

CITY, STATE

3)

BRIDE

and

GROOM

are happy to announce

their marriage

on DAY

YEAR

CITY, STATE

Please join them

for a celebration

on DAY

YEAR

TIME

LOCATION

CITY, STATE

I like #3 the best. It tells them you're already married and are now having a celebration but it isn't too wordy. It also flows nicely

2 and 3 seem geared to go out after you are married. 1 seems like it would go out before. So that is the first question I have, when are these going out? I like sending them after as an announcement and invitation, as in three.

Thanks for the input all! @AlwaysMs, our celebration party will be held three weeks after our wedding. Thus, the invitations will be out before the wedding.

    Third one!

    ETA: We did:

"The pleasure of your company is requested at a reception celebrating the marriage of..."

I didn't really want to use the term "reception" but it was the easiest way to convey the message that we were already married and that our guests shouldn't expect a ceremony and I wasn't a huge fan of how wordy the "X and Y were married..." templates I saw were.

I love three but if they are going out before I would stick with one or two.

I like 3. It states that you are already married. However, it not clear that it is an invite. It sounds more like an announcement of marriage. Maybe add "please join us" on date time location blah blah

I think I want to go with something like 3 for mine. We are getting married 1,000 miles away from where we currently live, and will be having a reception at home afterwards.

I like #1 the best but I don't think you need the phrase "after the wedding"

I like 2. It seems to be the most to-the-point. Others are a tad wordy.

Three. One is awkwardly worded. It uses both "we" and "their". If I got 2 I would think it included the ceremony add I've seen that wording on wedding invites.

I'm having a DW and my wording is basically #2 "celebration of marriage"

I've been thinking about this a little and I kind of like a combination of them:

    BRIDE

    and

    GROOM

    will be united in marriage

    on DATE

    in LOCATION

    You are joyfully invited

to a celebration of their marriage on

    DATE

    TIME

    CITY, STATE

Number 1, and I may borrow the same language, I am inviting some to the wedding and others to the party.

I like number 2. If all of your guests are pretty much aware, I don't think you need to go into details on the invite.
