Celebrating a birthday and anniversary at wedding reception

Am, on January 28, 2019 at 3:24 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11
Hi! The day of our wedding is also one of my bridesmaid’s birthdays and my aunt and uncles’ wedding anniversary. I want to do something to acknowledge them and was looking for ideas or what other people have done?

im thinking maybe a DJ shout out, and for the birthday have her cake come with a lit birthday candle and just the table would sing to her?

Is it too much to have the DJ play happy birthday to the whole room? Should I do anything else for my aunt and uncle?

Thanks for the advice!

Find out what their first dance song was and have the DJ say its dedicated to them or invite them to the dance floor to dance to it.

We are getting married the day before my parents anniversary and 2 days before our best friends anniversary. When the DJ introduces my parents im going to have him say something like "introducing Jessica's parents so and so who will be celebrating their however many year anniversary tomorrow" and idk what to do for our friends yet but, if we do anything.

    That is a beautiful idea!

I do think it's a bit much to have the DJ play happy birthday. Maybe pick a song and dedicate it to your Bridesmaid. I think a shout out and favorite song is plenty

I was at a wedding once that fell on my birthday and another guest's as well. They did make an announcement when they were cutting the cake, both of our names. I will never forget their anniversary :-)

You may not need to do too, they may not like the attention, but a shoutout from the DJ would be very thoughtful.

Two smaller cakes or desserts for them could provide additional dessert options for you guys.

Do you know if your aunt and uncle has a special song for them to dance to?

I love the idea about finding out the first dance song for your Aunt and Uncle and dedicating that to them! I also agree with a few other posters that the bridesmaid may not like the attention of having the birthday song played in front of everyone. Personally, I'd be very embarrassed and red in the face but obviously everyone has different preferences and she may be someone who would love the attention. If you are all getting ready together that morning, another option could be to have a cupcake with a candle and have a more private birthday song with just the other bridesmaids and you before all the wedding festivities begin!

My fiancé’s 30th birthday was the day of his cousins wedding where he was a groomsman. At the rehearsal dinner they had a slice of cake brought out with a candle and we sang happy birthday. Also at the wedding the actual day of his birthday they gave him a special shout out and everyone sing happy birthday. It was really nice.

One wedding I attended was the same date as my parents' anniversary and they played their first dance song and had the dance floor to themselves. It was super sweet! My niece's 1st birthday will be the day before my wedding as well as my close coworker's wife. I think I'm going to have a special treat or cupcake with a topper or candle specifically for them and a shoutout from the band. "The dessert table is now open and the bride and groom would like to give some special birthday shoutouts to their niece Olivia who turned one yesterday as well as Jane Doe who is celebrating a birthday today! Happy Birthday ladies, please make sure to grab your special birthday treat...etc etc"

Love this idea! My nephews 3rd birthday was the day of our rehearsal dinner and we had cupcakes for him and sang - it was so cute! He felt like it was a party just for him Smiley smile
