Celebrate birthday at reception?

Sandra, on January 7, 2014 at 4:07 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 19

My brother's birthday is on july 4th which is the same day as my day. I think I want to have the DJ play katy perry's "birthday" and have the kitchen bring out a cake that is lit to celebrate during the reception. while we are dancing. is that tacky?

I have a few family members with birthdays around the time of my wedding and we were thinking of calling them up and having the band play happy birthday. but i'm not sure about it so i'm interested to see what others have to say.

One of my brothers got married on our g'ma's birthday. She said to ignore it and concentrate on the wedding. Of course, brother had the DJ play Happy Birthday for g'ma. I think she was secretly pleased.

Our flower girl's birthday is on our wedding day and we were thinking about celebrating it with a cake during the rehearsal dinner the night before. I like the idea of playing happy birthday at the reception, though! Smiley smile

I think that's very nice of you. I personally wouldn't do it at my wedding b/c it's MY day! lol. I'd probably do like Brittany said and have a thing at the rehearsal dinner.

Um, it would be ok to mention it at the reception, but I dont know about doing a full out celebration. You dont wanna take away from the point of everyone being there

Yeah I would suggest not taking away from your day by having a full out celebration but I think that mentioning the birthday and singing/playing happy birthday would be fine! It is your day, and you can do whatever makes you happy!

If I was at your wedding and didn't know your brother I might think its weird. But thats just my opinion

My friends got married on the groom's birthday and she put candles on the grooms cake for him to blow out- it was cute!

I would definitely acknowledge it, since it IS such a close family member. The cake is a sweet bonus!

Im getting married July 5, on my dads birthday. I think I'm going to do something. My MOH and FFIL birthdays are the 4th, so we are doing something at the reception for them.. I dont think a 3 min. Song is going to take away from "your day"

Not tacky at all. If you like the idea, then it isn't taking away from your day at all. Go for it!

Ok thanks everyone @jacque i didn't hear the whole song just the last part of happy birthday so i will just change the song to traditional happy birthday. plus there will be more cake. he is special as the rest of my 9 siblings and yes all from same mom and dad. we are a very tight nit family and to celebrate his bday on my day would make it that much more special. thanks for the input everyone.
