Are you having your ceremony at your church? I know for our church, we meet with the music director who will be playing the music for the mass. If you're doing that, she/he should have some great alternative suggestions!

Here Comes the Bride actually isn't approved to be played in a Catholic Church, at least it's not in ours because it's not religious. I'm walking down the aisle to Canon in D. If you're getting married in a Catholic Church you should ask them for a list of approved songs, they can be really strict.

ETA: our prelude is going to be Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring by Bach, that's also really nice and was suggested by the music director

I love Canon in D, so am also planning on using it. We haven't spoken to the music director yet, but I know at our church, they have a sheet to fill out for music. There are maybe five or six options for each music piece; entrance, communion, recessional, etc.

I dreamed of the instrumental of 1000 years (didn't care that it's so played out), but it wasn't allowed. I also met with the music director and she actually let us pick out music for the entire mass. hearing her play the music (and sing if it had lyrics) influenced my decision.

Ask your church. Every one is different and they have different regulations.

Also doing Jesu for my entrance. Canon in D is over played in my opinion. Our music director sat down and played through a bunch of options with us. Maybe yours would do the same?

I thought about cannon n d for bridesmaids and groomsmen entrence. Im trying to decide for my entrance now. That's crazy that they don't allow here comes the bride in some churches, I thought that was standard.

I walked in to Prelude to Te Deum by Charpentier. The moms came in to Winter from Four Seasons by Vivaldi and the wedding party came in to Air from Water Music Suite by Handel.

I'm Catholic and I never heard of music restrictions around where I live... as long as it's not secular music, all songs are ok. I'm from a culture where we dance to church songs with drums, bass, guitars, keyboard etc.. and yes catholic! I always dread these boring American mass with lifeless music bcz I'm used to lively church service. I'm playing church songs but with more umph.... and I'm having a full on catholic mass!

@GoldenQueen that would be classified as contemporary music/mass (my church has a contemporary choir)

OP as others have stated, check with your music director, every parish/diocese is different. As others have stated Jesu, and Canon in D are very popular options Smiley smile

Our Catholic church gave us a music packet that includes the songs we are allowed to play... "the wedding march" is not on there... nor are contemporary songs.

'Trumpet voluntary' by Clarke or Stanley are really nice options...As are Hornpipe by Handel. it doesn't bother me that the church doesn't allow other music -- I like classical and the music suits the setting.

A lot of churches don't allow Wagner's Wedding March (in Lohengrin, that precedes when the couple is about to go to the bedroom) or Mendelssohn's Wedding March (if you remember reading "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in high school English, that's a joke wedding, not unlike getting married under the monkey bars on the playground).
