Catholic wedding songs?

Casey, on January 11, 2019 at 3:30 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 13
Ladies! I'm 3.5 months away from my wedding and need help choosing the songs for the Mass! All I have set in stone is that I want Ave Verum Corpus for the communion hymn, but beyond that I'm stumped. What songs do you have lined up? TIA

I walked down to Canon in D. We also used The Servant Song and How He Loves Us!

I think my favorite church song would be Canticle of the Sun! I think it's the perfect recessional song, very celebratory!

Most of our songs have already been suggested: Cannon D, Be Thou My Vision, Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring. I will also add Ave Maria - we presented a bouquet to our Lady while Ave Maria was being sung. There might have been another song, but it doesn't stand out in my memory.

We're having a Catholic ceremony, but I'm not Catholic. Following this thread so FH can help me learn what the song options are! (He's in charge of most of the church stuff.)

Hi everyone! Lots of beautiful suggestions here already! Our Catholic wedding is in a little less than a month- we're very excited! I love both traditional hymns and contemporary worship music, so we tried to pick a mix of both.

Right before Mass, we're doing Good To Me by Audrey Assad, and our processional is Be Thou My Vision. Our song for the preparation of the gifts will be either Holy, Holy, Holy or the popular (and very beautiful) worship and praise song Oceans by Hillsong United. The communion hymn is Godhead Here in Hiding, and our closing hymn is O God Beyond All Praising.

We're not Catholic, but we're having a very Christian ceremony. I know there is some overlap between generic Christian and straight out Catholic themes. But you have some extremely influential composers that wrote Catholic sacred music, Bach, Vivaldi, Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven to name a few.
Our bridesmaid processional is "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" by JS Bach. My processional is the "March" from Handel's Suite in D.

So these may not be Catholic hymns, but there could be some overlap. Our first hymn is "Immortal Invisible God Only Wise." Next is "Our God Our Help in Ages Past," that's one of my favorites. After the gospel we're doing "Thy Strong Word." Then after the Lord's Prayer we're singing "Praise to the Lord, the Almighty" and after the benediction we're doing "A Mighty Fortress" <--that's not Catholic and it won't go over well Smiley smile But all these other ones if you can find them in a Catholic hymnal can work.
Our recessional is Vivald's "Concerto for Two Trumpets in C Major."
Youtube is actually a great place to look up and listen music that can be used at weddings.

We are getting married in a Catholic church by a Catholic deacon (not a priest) so we won't have the full Mass with Communion, but here's our list:

Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring (guitar only, while people are getting seated)
For the Beauty of the Earth (guitar only, while people are getting seated)
Canon (guitar only, while the groomsmen line up, etc.)
Morning Has Broken (with singing, processional for flower girl, bridesmaids, matron of honor, and bride)

Glory to God in the Highest
Responsorial Pslam: Either incorporate "We Will Rise Again" or "You Are Mine" into this? Not sure about this.
    Celtic Alleluia
Presentation to Mary with Groom, Bride, and both Mothers: The Stand by Hillsong (The guitarist at our home church in Brooklyn plays this at Mass a lot and we love it).
Recessional Song: Thank You, Lord-- Don Moen (This is another one the guitarist at our home church plays at Mass and we love).

I totally agree---Canticle of the Sun is a great choice for a Catholic wedding. My fiance didn't like it at all but I think it's a great one.
