Catholic Wedding - How many months before your wedding did you attend Pre-Cana?

Kristin, on June 7, 2014 at 12:47 PM Posted in Planning 1 7

I'm wondering how long before your wedding did you start Pre-Cana? I know our priest said once we hit our year mark, they will contact us. However, I'm just wondering about everyone else's experiences.

We started scheduling pre-Cana classes at 9 months out... and ran into some problems getting everything scheduled in the "correct" order. We were able to sign up online with the diocese and did not have to go directly through the church to schedule.

I would start scheduling as soon as possible... but not start taking them until you are within a year.

We did it about a year in advance. We kinda wanted to just do it so it was one less thing to worry about. Our priest actually suggested to us that we do it early because there are so many other things to do in the closer months that its hard to find the time. We did one which was just one weekend and done. It was great

Cece1219: I am so jealous! The diocese here has a "3-part series": Engagement Encounter (1 weekend), Plan for a Joy-Filled Marriage (1 full day) and NFP (four evenings, ~2 hrs each, spaced 3-4 weeks apart). Getting them all scheduled was tricky and it felt like we were registering for grad school all over again.

We cut it really close. We did ours the last weekend of August and got married the first weekend of October.

Our wedding is in March 2015 and we are attending ours at the end of this month! I don't think it matters how soon you attend, because our original wedding date was Feb 2014 before we pushed our wedding back, and we were signed up to attend a Pre-Cana class in May 2013. Our church coordinator said that we could've still attended that class and it would've still been good for our new 2015 wedding date. We just didn't feel like doing it so far advance and wanted to be prepped for marriage closer to our wedding date haha.

We did ours end of march/ beginning of April. The program is only offered twice a year at my sister parish... My parish is small and doesn't have press cana classes. Father suggested we contact him with 3months to go to schedule private sessions with him, but our schedules are not easily matched with his. So I hedged my bets and went with another program
