Cathedral length veil question

Futuremrsplummer, on February 1, 2015 at 3:05 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

Hi all,

I'm probably over thinking this way too much. But I just want a couple opinions just for peace of mind. I wanted a cathedral length veil as soon as I got my dress. My dress is ivory lace/beading with a somewhat short train. I've tried on a few cathedral veils when I've gone into bridal stores, but I haven't purchased one yet.

A few days ago, I read something online regarding cathedral length veils. It stated that they are for formal weddings. I know that I can wear whatever I want on my wedding day. But my wedding is not formal, it's going to be simple and elegant. We're getting married at the Catholic church where I went to school when I was young(it's not a cathedral). And the reception is at a hall downtown. So, does it matter if I wear a cathedral veil? Will people think that I look way too dramatic? Does it matter really? I guess not, but just wondering what some of you might think. Thanks

    I'm wearing a cathedral veil for a 2 o'clock outdoor wedding in a park. I wouldn't worry about it.

I plan to wear a cathedral veil with my dress, but I it sounds like my train is longer than yours might be. I'm also getting married in a Catholic Church and our wedding is not formal, we're going for a "classic elegant" look. I think as long as you like the way it looks with your dress, you should wear it!

Wear it, but maybe remove it for the reception so people aren't tripping over it.

If it looks good with your dress, then I wouldn't worry about it. I remember ItsGoodToBeKing's BAM and she had a tea length dress (not a formal length) and a cathedral veil and it looked stunning.

I had my wedding in a big stone church, with a huge stain glass window. originally I was going to go with a bit more simple and modern look,. but since the chapel was so traditional, in the end traditional look won out. it just felt right. I wore a very long cathedral length veil and I only had a few in person guests. (long story, everyone lives in other countries or way out of state, so they video conferenced) and out of everyone there and those that heard about it, no one thought anything of my dressing so formal.

wear what you want and be happy! Smiley smile

Whether I was getting married in a church or hotel (church btw), I would still be wearing a cathedral length veil. I think they are so beautiful and would want one regardless.

Go for it, plus you usually take it off for the reception anyway. I was worried about my dress being too formal, then the lady at the dress shop said she gets people all the time that have small little beach weddings and wear huge ball gowns with tons of bling. It's just whatever makes you feel like a bride!

Do it! It will be beautiful and the fact that you are getting married in a church will make it look even prettier.
