Catering prices in California

Kyla, on August 27, 2019 at 8:32 PM Posted in California Planning 0 3
Hello! I’m looking for a caterer in the Northern California area and I am totally overwhelmed by the quotes I’ve been receiving from the companies I’ve reached out to so far. Does anyone have any insight on what an average price is for catering? I’m not sure if we need to loosen our budget a bit or if I just need to keep looking. We are anticipating about 130-140 people. BBQ, Mexican or pizza are the cuisines we’ve been researching so far. Any help appreciated!!!

    Hey there Kyla Smiley smile

    Welcome to the WeddingWire community.

The WeddingWire cost guide is a super insightful tool when figuring out what the average price for different wedding vendors in your area are. According to the tool, in San Francisco, most couples spend between $3,600 - $10,000 on wedding catering. The average catering cost is $6,109. If you’re not based in San Francisco, you can change the location on the page Smiley smile

On the page you can also find more information on what is typically included with this, average price per person, how you can save money on wedding food and drinks, and loads more.

Have you got quotes from many caterers so far? Are you getting quotes within these ranges?

Catering typically comes to about $50 - $100 per person, but for BBQ, Mexican, pizza, it’ll definitely be $50pp or lower! I would suggest looking into food trucks.

When I was doing catering research, I found a caterer called “Golden Harvest Catering” and their prices were practically steals! We ultimately didn’t go with them, but their reviews seem good!

We are getting married in Southern California and will be serving tacos! Our wedding is on the smaller side (64 guests) and our catering (this does not include bar or dessert) came out to just a smidge over $3,000.

We were required to pick a caterer off a select list by our venue but I would just suggest looking high & low and getting as many quotes as you can! Sometimes if you are open with your target budget some vendors are willing to help (within reason) you be able to afford their services.
