We had finalized our guest list and we were content...until catering sent us an invoice. Holy fuzzballs! We were forced to cut our guest list down to at least 100 people which was really hard! What really killed us that we didn't even take into consideration was the taxes afterward!! Otherwise our original guest list would have been ok to deal with.

I hear that you should be prepared for at least what, 20% to not show up? Our fear is that just our luck we would have close to 100% if not perfect attendance especially if they had enough notice. I don't know what to do because if we start receiving declined RSVPs, that would make room again. Would it be ok to invite them then or should we just leave it alone?

Is there any good solution to this?

I was a B-lister for 2 weddings, and not once did I think it was rude.

And that's the last thing I would want to come off as. I appreciate your input. Thank you.

I had that dilemma too where I had to shed people off the guest list because FH and I just couldn't afford it. My wedding coordinator suggested we do a B-list and a C-list if we had too. To give enough notice for our B-list we are asking our A-list to RSVP by March 15th. That way if any of our A-list guest decline that still gives the B-list enough notice for our mid-May wedding.

That makes sense. We were starting to think about the same thing so we'll see what happens. Our deadline is a month prior to our wedding. I dont know if that would be enough time if we try to invite anyone else after that.

Right, I wouldn't invite anyone else after the deadline mark has been reached because your venue is going to be firm on those dates so that they can do their jobs properly.
