Catering cost too much?

I have not booked a caterer for my wedding yet! There are reasons however I don't want to go off topic. The caterer was very clear and gave me a quote of $15 pp for a buffet style dinner with my choice of chicken entree, 2 sides, a salad, and bread rolls. This includes his staff and service for 2 hours and free delivery and set up! We have 160 guests who are invited, and that would add up to about $2400 all together. When FH told his mother and step dad they were very surprised and thought that it is a crazy price. So I'm wondering if it is too much? Everything else was more expensive. We can pay for it but his mom wanted to help by putting in $500, this was before I received this quote. So that is why I want to take them into much consideration when choosing a caterer.

If you think it's crazy then shop around and consider the other catering company. It depends if this includes also clean up . Most rental companies for tables , linnens don't set up or take down and wash things . And bar - does this include a bar tender ? If it includes everything then it's worth it. If this just includes food and delivering then as about set up and clean up . I've noticed that caterers add that in the closer you get to signing and gratuity already in the bill. Shop around and look at the numbers. You want to feel like this was a good deal and have a overall good vibe of service. We are having a buffet with chicken and linguisa. Steamed green beans and roasted root vegetables with salad on the buffet table ( less things to rent having it on the buffet table)

Ours was $109 pp for the fish option, and $124 pp for the filet. I honestly can't believe the price you were offered.

That's an excellent price. We are inviting 170 people and our buffet dinner is $30 pp. My package includes three entrees (filet mignon, chicken cordon bleu, and pecan crusted tilapia) with 3 accompaniments, dinner rolls, and a salad. It ends up being $5,100 before the 17% tax is included, $5,967 with the tax included. If I was you I would see if you could get another entrée thrown in for a few more dollars pp. Not everyone likes chicken.

If my quote was $15 per person, I wouldn't have any issues... In my area, it is much higher then even @Centerpiece stated, most locations are $180 a head, we fought to get the $125 we have now.

That's really great pricing!! We are at $88 per person. That's cocktail hour, buffet with 3 choices, and 4 hours of open bar.

Depending on where you are this is a steal. You can't even get buffets for that price almost anywhere.

We are located in an expensive city and probably going to be about $180 per person all in. Not buffet either. It's going to come up to about $18,000 for food/drinks for 100 people alone haha.

It is a very good price. If you can add a vegan option, that might be worthwhile, but to me, chicken is the best non-vegan compromise.

That's an amazing price. Our vegetarian buffet came in at about $40/pp.

I'm speechless; I've never heard of prices that low.

I.e. we saved $50 per person, by booking on a Sunday night, at a full-service hotel. .

$15PP is insanely cheap. I priced out 5 caterers and we went with the second cheapest option was $45PP, (the cheapest was $40PP)

Wow, our catering starts at 24.50 a head and that is the most basic one entre menu available. We will probably be paying 35.90 per head for more options. $15 per head is almost too good to be true!
