Catering budget and issues

Oscar, on October 2, 2022 at 10:59 AM Posted in Planning 1 7
Hello my wedding is under 30 days. My wedding is a weekend event that will have 3 types of buffet style meals. I just need someone to prepare and set up and break down buffets. Since it’s an out of town wedding and we are providing a room for catering people. What is an appropriate budget? This is not fancy, simple items, almost like a backyard barbecue family style. Please help

"Budget" means what you can afford. It sounds like you're asking what's the expected going rate to pay someone to help you with that? Or asking what professionals usually charge?

The charge for caterers to prepare and set up/tear down buffets can vary A LOT. We’re talking it could be $10/person, or $100+ per person. It really depends on where you are located, the cost of living in that area, and what you are wanting to serve. There’s really no way to give you an average cost for such a thing. With only 30 days left, I would highly suggest reaching out to caterers in the area ASAP! Many caterers are completely booked for all of 2022 and most of 2023!

Your budget is what you can afford. It may or may not align with what caterers charge. If you don’t have alot of money to spend, your best option is to contact local favorite restaurants and ask about their catering/delivery menus. Typically you get more food per person with them than you will a regular catering company that charges extra for weddings, and the restaurants offer just as good if not better tasting food at a much lower price. And you have more options when the regular caterers say they are busy on your date. But you either have everything be self serve buffet or hire staffing on Thumbtack.com to serve and plate the food, which is still less expensive.

Hi! Do you already have the food and you’re just looking to hire help with preparation set up and breakdown? If so, I would look on “thumbtack.com” or “care.com” or reach out to a local restaurant and ask if you can hire anyone to work your wedding. Good luck!

The issue to keep in mind if you are seeking freelance people to help, you will likely need one person who is capable to supervise the others. Otherwise, the crew may not work effectively. I am assuming, as Bird mentioned, that you have some provider of the food who does not provide the labor.

Depends where you’re going to have the wedding? Location can also determine your budget
