Catering advice?

Jojo, on May 16, 2019 at 10:16 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4
Hello so I am getting married in September of this year. We have 80 guests coming and we have decided to go with Lucille's BBQ as our caterer. We are only doing a drop off because our venue only allows delivery from outside caterers and are not allowed to set up. My question is do I need to tip the caterer a service fee if they are only dropping off food? I understand if there is a delivery charge (they have not mentioned a delivery charge but I will gladly tip/pay for that), but it is showing on the quote they gave me that there is a 15% gratuity? My venue is already charging us $21 pp JUST for service. Does that mean I will have to tip my venue AND the caterer? Please help! I want to do the right thing.

Have you signed the contract? You can always try negotiating. I would also follow up about the delivery charge question. You want to know all the hidden fees that may be lurking.

I’m not sure what mean by “tip the caterer a service fee.” A tip and a service fee are very different things. If gratuity is included in your quote, there’s no real way to get around paying it, but you don’t need to tip on top of it.

    Hi Jojo!

Mmmm BBQ, sounds awesome! I’m sure your guests will love it.

Firstly, I would ask that they include all charges, including delivery, on the quote so you’re not confused or blindsided with extra costs.

I suggest you speak with them and clarify what this 15% gratuity covers, and if this is the tip, as you don’t want to end up paying both.

If you venue is taking care of the services, I would imagine this is a separate tip. Did they venue include gratuity in their quote to you?

I wouldn't since they are not serving food, right?
