Catered pizza at a wedding? Taco truck?

CHEYENNE, on January 18, 2016 at 5:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 44

Me and my fiance both LOVE pizza. Would it be tacky to have pizza, salad, and some apps catered to our wedding? Has anyone been to a wedding that had pizza? I figured maybe if taco trucks were ok pizza would be too? Or is it a big no no? Speaking of taco trucks how does that work? Do you pay a flat fee for them to be there? Pay based per head?

The celebration should reflect your personalities. If your venue allows it, I say go for it!

There are some really great Italian restaurants that cater. I probably wouldn't serve it at a black tie affair, but if presented in a nice manner it could make for a fun (but maybe a little messy) dinner. Maybe you could offer some other options besides pizza that the restaurant offers for those who may not be as in love with the dish as you are. Artisan pizzas/flatbreads can be a lot of fun. If the restaurant does catering, they already know how to present food in a professional manner. I wouldn't just call any random pizza shop and ask them to drop off 50 boxes of pizza though. I would make sure I was ordering from a nicer restaurant that offered catering services.

I'd want my wedding to be something different than I eat on Tuesday.

I'm doing this at my wedding with a portable brick oven for wood-fired pizzas made on the property. When executed properly, this looks awesome, and its a great way to keep a low-key vibe at a small or less formal wedding.. Obviously, don't serve it out of a box... but take a look at some pictures online of how it looks when it's presented properly. This isn't from my wedding, but it's from my another wedding done by my caterer. I love it!

I think you can get away with it as long as you aren't advertising anything formal.

Have you looked into a food truck?

    Definitely do some pinteresting.

I've been to a pizza wedding, but they did it the wrong way.... the delivery guy showed up during speeches and then they just put all the boxes out on the table. It came off as extremely tacky. It would make a lot more sense if it was a restaurant and not a chain pizza place. I'm sure it can be done correctly, but for whatever reason, it rubbed me the wrong way. Everyone in formal dress eating pizza, so odd, but to each his own!

I'd much rather have the pizza MCB1218 posted versus some of the crappy wedding food I've eaten in the past. Gourmet pizzas sound like an awesome alternative.

Only if it's gourmet pizza. Skip the dominos.

I think it depends on how it's done and what you serve with it.

I'm doing pizza from a local wood fired highly rated and super delicious pizza place.

We are also doing some sides. Here is our menu, it's coming out to about $8-$9 a person with the sides.

    Pizza Options:

    *Margherita

    San Marzano tomato sauce,

    house-made mozzarella, basil

    *Bianco

    Mozzarella, ricotta,

    Parmesan Reggiano

    *The Lombardi

    Hazel Dell mushrooms, arugula,

    caramelized onions & Scamorza,

    dijon drizzle

    *Carbonara

    House-made pancetta,

    garlic,

    pecorino, mozzarella,

    parsley & egg cream

    *Salsiccia

    House-made sausage,

    rapini, ricotta & mozzarella,

    chili flake

Then for sides we are getting from whole foods:

    *grilled vegetable platters

    *fresh bread rolls

    * garden salad

    *fresh fruit and cheese platters

I feel like there is a nice way to do a pizza hosted event. :3

If the food is good quality and abundant I wouldn't complain. You could consider having Italian food and saving the pizza for a late night snack.

    Why not?

Here's the thing...it's your day....you are hosting people for the first time as a couple.

Do what inspires you. Just make sure you have enough food for the number of guests you invite.

    Have fun!

It's fine as long as your caterer has experience serving pizza to a crowd as this can go very wrong otherwise. Be sure the presentation is nice and offer options.

Hey, Cheyenne-- as long as you're feeding your guests and not asking them to pay, nothing tacky about it! And people who feed their guests pizza are just as married as those who serve a five course meal. Personally, I like pizza, too, and would prefer it to many wedding suppers I've had!
