Where I live if you aren't married yet they want you on the floor, engaged or not. I am finding it easier to avoid going up there after getting engagement, but I've still been pushed up there a few times...ugh.

The one time I caught the bouquet it was fake flowers, cut my hand pretty bad on the stems and bled very bad (darn alcohol thinned my blood). After that I tried to avoid going out there.

I hate the bouquet toss. The whole implication is that women are so desperate to get married that they will compete with each other for the honor. At my son's wedding, one woman accidentally caught the bouquet, and basically batted it upward like it was a badminton shuttlecock so that someone else would catch it.

That being said, the bouquet toss is supposed to be to determine the first one to get married, not the first one to start dating or get engaged. So I'd think any unmarried woman could participate. However, you could always ask the bride what her definition of "single" is.

I went to a friends wedding last Saturday. Because I am getting married Aug 17th I did not go try. But no, if you are engaged you are not a single lady. You are promised to be betrothed.

The tradition actually started because of people trying to grab the brides dress for luck. She tossed it to distract them. It had nothing to do with being single or not.

I asked FH about this for our wedding since there are only 2 actual single girls at our wedding, not including a 15 & 10 year old. He said even if they are engaged or dating they still have to go out.

Actually as far as I know and have been told, you try to catch the bouquet as long as you are not married. You are considered single until you are married. So I say go ahead

I hated the bouquet toss for the fact that some guy will later have his hand all over my leg, should I actually catch it. I am all set. However that will not keep me from subjecting my loved ones to the same embarrassment at my wedding Smiley winking

If you are engaged, you are already getting married - so I would leave the boquet for a truly single girl.

You're not only already getting married, but you've caught it 7 times. You've already had the experience of catching it, you've found the man for you. Let someone else have it. It's not a sporting event where you try to beat your record you know lol

I'd go out there but I would not try to catch it.

Haha - I made all the ladies at my wedding come up regardless of their relationship status, mainly for the pictures lol. They let the one little girl at the wedding get it (turns out I basically threw it to her anyway).

Hmmm I was thinking unless you are married you are single. If my girlfriends who are not married but dating or living with a guy dont come try to get it there wont be many ladies out there. I guess we will just play it be ear as I don't want this to look stupid with only a few. same for the guys I was thing if you dont have a ring you are single!!
