Caring for engagement ring.

Such a ridiculous question BUT I just got engaged and have no idea how to care for this beautiful ring yet. Can I wear it while working out? I do boot camp and we use weights so I didn't know if that'll scratch it. Also, do you wear rings when you shower, cook and wash your hands? I don't wanna ruin...

I don't work out, cook. Or shower in either of my rings (engagement and band). Its not because I don't want to its just a hassle because I have lots of little diamonds and the prongs can be sharp. I tend to bang it a lot and I don't want to be cleaning it every week or worrying about a diamond falling off so I just don't wear it while I do rougher activities.

I take mine off when I'm doing dishes and if I'm working with chemicals like bleach (I wear gloves but still get scared of it popping through them) and I take it off if I need to use my hands to make hamburgers or something like that. Otherwise it's always on!

I only take mine off when I'm cooking or baking or something that I know will get my hands dirty. Like, I dont' want to get raw chicken or raw beef stuck in my ring, ya know? It probably wouldn't, but I'd rather just avoid risking it. Otherwise I wear it. I'm also the type of person that loves looking at rings of older couples and seeing the scratches and imperfections: to me, it shows how long they have been together and everything they have gone through. So if my ring eventually gets scratched, I won't really mind. I guess I'm odd for that though.

I take mine off when I sleep, shower, cook, and clean. I also take it off if I'm going to the beach/pool.

I take mine off in the shower, and when I go to work because my part-time job is in food service, and I don't want to ruin it while washing greasy, dirty pans! To clean it I take it to the jeweler where my FH bought it, they clean it for free. Editing to add that I also take it off when swimming in the ocean so that it doesn't fall off or attract sharks! Smiley smile

I used to work at a jewelry store. Your ring should not be worn while cooking with meats (bacteria can get down in your ring) or other messy foods, working out/lifting weights (dangerous for you AND your ring can be damaged), shouldn't be worn when swimming (you could lose it and the chemicals will damage it), shouldn't be slept in (over time the prongs will get worn down by rubbing against the sheets all night)... I could go on.

I clean my ring DAILY. I purchased an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner on Amazon and I pop it in that while I'm showering. Then I scrub it with a toothbrush and rinse it.

It used to gross me out so freaking much when people didn't clean their rings regularly and I'd see their dead skin cells, pie dough, lotion.. you name it coming off in our cleaner at the store. Ugh.

Dirty rings are a peeve of mine.

Besides, my husband spent $25k on a ring, I'm going to take damn good care of it.

I take mine off to work out-white gold is easily scratched and I do really heavy weight lifting so I'd rather not wear it than have it dented and stones fall out. I take it off to shower, sleep and wash hands. Get it cleaned by a jeweler every 6 months. I've also heard of home care kits but don't own any

I don't wear mine to shower or clean with any chemicals/soap or whole cooking (because of residue buildup)

I'm also very clumsy and bump into things often so my jeweler told me not to wear it to my part time department store job. I hit my hand on a clothing rack and bent a prong to the point it wasn't even touching the diamond.

I do workout in it as I don't use weights often.

I have a cheaper ring that I wear if I'm going to my part time job, swimming or vacation.

I take my ring off when I clean, shower and go to the gym. I wash mine every week with window cleaner and a tooth brush.

I use to take mine off when I would clean, shower, bed, dishes, etc but one day I could not find it after I washed dishes and I was in tears. Since that incident I don't take it off for anything. FH did purchase full warranty but still.

I don't really wear my ring to work (I wear it on Fridays though) because I work with kids and I always somehow get mysterious bruises and scratches. I take it to the jeweler every 6 months for polishing.

I wear mine all the time. Doing dishes, I typically wear gloves anyway. If I'm going into a hot tub or a pool is really the only time I take it off.....

Take it off while working out. Nothing like a good old fashioned finger de-gloving to ruin your day and your hands. Also, the dumbbells will absolutely scratch it. Not worth the risks.

I never take mine off EVER! I get it cleaned a ton at the jeweler and bought my own cleaner from Meijer that works amazing!

I wear mine nearly all day. I work in a kitchen, so it's probably not ideal to wear it there..but if I didn't wear it to work, I'd never wear it really. I always take it off for the gym, dishes, showering and at bed. I have insurance and a great warranty, so I'm safe, worst case scenario. ETA spelling lol

I take mine off to shower, wash dishes, to bed, and work (I'm a nurse-I know some nurses wear their rings, but I prefer to leave it at home). My jeweler recommended bringing it in for cleaning every 6 months. So far everything has been great-and I used to wear it to bed until I read (here on WW, thanks everyone!) that it damages the ring/diamonds. I noticed it has kept its sparkle more-once I got it cleaned and stopped wearing it at night.

I rarely take mine off. If I'm handling raw meat I do. Also if I'm working closely with a partner in rehearsal or with a coach I will just because the prongs can catch and I don't want to scratch anyone. I usually leave my wedding band on and take off the engagement ring for that. Also if my hands are really cold I will take them off so they don't slide off somewhere on accident.

My fingers swell when I am active, and it makes me ring uncomfortable. Plus, I don't want to damage my finger getting my ring caught on something. I wear a silicon ring for gym/climbing/adventuring. I also take mine off when I handle chemicals. And when I sleep and shower. I have little ring dishes all over my house so it has a safe place when I take it off.

I take mine off for cooking with raw meats, showering, sleeping, and doing dishes. Sometimes I'll take it off right when I get home from work.
