Caring for engagement ring.

Such a ridiculous question BUT I just got engaged and have no idea how to care for this beautiful ring yet. Can I wear it while working out? I do boot camp and we use weights so I didn't know if that'll scratch it. Also, do you wear rings when you shower, cook and wash your hands? I don't wanna ruin...

I take mine off for showering or any workout besides running. Also washing the dog or swimming/boating, but I think that's about it.

I only take mine off when I'm putting lotion on my hands or if I'm doing something dirty like yard work. I'm a clumsy asshole so I don't like to take it off for fear of dropping/losing it!

I take mine off to sleep, shower, and work out.

Sleep because my fingers swell at night and I get freaked out if I can't get a ring off.

Shower because I don't like getting it caught in my hair.

Working out because I lift heavy weight, and I have sizing beads. I tried benching with it on once and it dug into my finger pretty bad!

I take mine off to work out, wash dishes, work in the yard, any cleaning with chemicals, cooking that will be messy and sometimes when playing with the dog. I don't want to risk damaging it or having it fall off and losing it.

I never take mine off. I'm too paranoid that I will leave it somewhere or it will go down a drain or something.

I plan to get a silicone ring to wear around.

I take mine off: to sleep, shower, wash dishes, dealing with anything with chemicals (cleaning), working out, yard work, swimming, going to the horse barn, and sometimes when I wash my hands depending on how much my hands may have swelled during the day

I take mine off to shower and swim. But that's about it. I don't really lift weights when I work out so that isn't an issue, like some others said.

There are very few exceptions for when I take it off. I never wear it when I do dishes, work with raw meat, put on lotion, or when I lift weights. I also never wear it while swimming for fear that I will lose it (especially in the ocean).

However, a friend of mine is a jeweler and she constantly gripes about how poorly people take care of their rings. She recommends taking it off in the shower, while sleeping, swimming, cooking, or working out. She says if you never take it off it gets full of what she refers to as "hand cheese." I will tell you, I have considered taking it off more, especially since I CAN see fine scratches in the band from wearing it too much.

I take mine off when I shower (worried it will fall off) and when I wash dishes (falling off and I think soap isnt good for it) but other than that I keep that sucker on!

Everyone has their own preference when it comes to wearing their ring.

I don't shower with mine, I don't sleep with mine, and most of the time I take it off when I get home from work. I also don't wear it when I clean.

I take mine off when I exercise, shower (most of the time), and do dishes, and sleep. I do this primarily because soap from showering and dishes can wear the ring down. I don't exercise with it cuz it's annoying and I'm also worried about it snagging anything (you know you can lose a finger that way!). And I don't sleep in it just because I'm a really hot sleeper and my fingers swell during the night which makes it impossible for me to get it off to workout in the morning.

The other day I realized my ring was covered in raw chicken goo after cooking...so now I take it off while cooking but other than that I view it as it took 6 years of hints for me to get this I am NOT taking it off.

I wear my rings nearly all the time, but there are sometimes I take them off. I take them off as I'm getting ready in the morning (wear them in the shower, then take them off as I'm doing hair and makeup) to avoid getting makeup, hair products, lotion, etc. gunked up in them. I take them off if I'm using bleach or another harsh cleaner, and sometimes when I'm washing dishes. I keep ring holders by the sinks in the house so I have a safe place to put them! I only wear my wedding band to the gym just because it's more comfortable for me.

I use a jewelry cleaner I bought at Walmart- not sure the brand but I've seen it at walmart and drugstores, it comes in a red jar. It's the best! Make sure you get the kind for precious jewelry. I usually clean my rings about once a week or so.

Also, makes sure you have it insured! Check your homeowners/renters insurance policy - jewelry is usually covered but usually only to a certain amount which doesn't usually cover the value of an engagement ring. I have a personal articles policy for my e-ring. Talk to your insurance agent.

I never shower with mine on. That's the only time I take it off. We bought all the extended lifetime warrenty with mine as well but I still don't want to wear it in the shower. And I took it off when swimming, and at theme parks cause I was worried about it coming off. Also the jeweler gave me cleaner so I clean it about once a week with that cleaner and the little brush that came with it.

I wear mine all day except when I workout or shower. I also don't sleep with mine on, mostly because I was getting dry skin on my finger.

    I take

Mine off in the shower and when I wash dishes. Something about soap and water makes me nervous.

But I've noticed it has a lot to do with personal preference.

I'm recently engaged too! So I'm just trying to figure out what I like and what I don't like. But soap and water for me is a no go. It makes my fingers too slippery.

The only time I take my ring off is when I have to put cleaning gloves on at work, when I'm in the shower or when I'm putting lotion on... other than that it never leaves my hand

I would suggest a silicone band for the gym. They will scratch from metal weights.

I keep mine on except when I workout (I love boxing and lifting weights) or if I go swimming. But that is completely up to you, just make sure you clean it so the soap suds doesn't make it any less shiny!

I take mine off when I cook, clean and shower as I don't want it to go down the drain. I'm also scared about the diamonds going around the band falling off while I sleep.
