Caricature Artist or Photobooth??

I'm trying to determine what entertainment to have for my wedding! I have found a caricature artist that I LOVE and is very reasonably priced. I figured he would be able to work during the cocktail hour and during the reception (with a break for dinner) which would allow most, if not all, people to get their caricature. I also have a photobooth that I tried out at a bridal show that is phenomenal! The photobooth is slightly more expensive, takes up more room, and would only be open after dinner. I am so torn! Thoughts? What unique entertainment are you having at your wedding?

    Hello Shannon!

I think you should go for the caricature artist if your wedding has few guests. The good thing about the photobooth is that people can make as many photos as they want, very fast. The caricature artist will take longer with each person, so maybe there are people who are left out if your guests are too many.

I was seriously considering both BUT with a guest list 200 there is NO WAY I could do the artist unless he or she brought help! If your wedding is 100 or less I would say artist!

I totally agree! Smiley smile That will be awesome!

Perhaps the caricature artist has a plan from prior weddings & events for how to best plan for the amount of people who want to have themselves drawn! How many are invited to your wedding in-total? You could try talking to the artist first to see what his/her plan is, how they might deal with your amount of guests, and what they normally do at weddings & events in this case. Smiley smile

We are having about 100 people! I think it would be fun, but I would feel super guilty if someone didn't get one that wanted one!

I’d prefer the photo booth personally, I can’t imagine wanting to take the time to sit still and have someone draw me during a wedding, I wouldn’t want to be pulled away from the celebration for that long! It’s a cute idea but personally I would be more likely to use the photo booth

Ummm🤔 I would say have your caricature artist during the cocktail hour,👌🏼then the photo booth right after. It’s hard just picking one🤷🏻‍♀️ Their both a hit and crowd pleasers🎊 Happy Planning 🍷

I love the idea of a caricature artist! I think most people do photo booths, but I haven't seen caricatures done nearly as often, so that would be a really unique twist!

Both are great ideas. I prefer the photo booth because it's quick and easy and people love it! I would hate to be sitting for a caricature and have a favorite song come on and miss dancing to it!

We chose to go with a caricature artist for some of the reasons you mentioned - the top one being that it was so much cheaper than a photobooth in my area, and the second being that it's so unique! I've never seen one at a wedding before (photobooths rule around here) and I think it'll blow my guests minds.

Ours is starting during cocktail hour and going straight through the reception as well, which I figure will cover all the guests interested in having it done. I like that guests have their caricature to take home and ours even includes plastic covers for them so they stay nice and dry. Caricature artist gets my vote, just for the simple fact that it's out of the box!

It only takes about 5 mins pp (for mine at least), when it's just in black and white, no color. Not a crazy time investment Smiley tongue

I totally get your concern and I think Brittany gives some great feedback here (above)! Seeing what your artist can do to maximize time and perhaps booking the artist for cocktail hour, too, will help cover all the guests interested in having it done!

My future hubby is a caricature artist and so I'd definitely approve of this! It's a very fun and unique idea, much so more than a photobooth. Smiley smile

A caricature is a cute idea but keep in mind that your guests will be waiting on line for it and it takes longer than a photo. It may take your guests away from the dance floor.

So from these comments I'm getting an estimate of 5 min per person and 100 guests...over 8 hours to complete? oh boy haha I would recommend talking to the artist about what they normally do...100 people doesn't sound super large so I'm sure they have handled it before. It would probably be helpful to have couples and families all share a sketch but I think it would definitely be good entertainment during cocktail hour. You could maybe even give an alphabetical list of guests that could be called over through a speaker..."Calling the Adams Family for your caricature...Atkins Family you are on deck if interested"
