Caricature Artist or Photobooth??

shannon.sv, on January 15, 2019 at 4:44 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 34

I'm trying to determine what entertainment to have for my wedding! I have found a caricature artist that I LOVE and is very reasonably priced. I figured he would be able to work during the cocktail hour and during the reception (with a break for dinner) which would allow most, if not all, people to get their caricature. I also have a photobooth that I tried out at a bridal show that is phenomenal! The photobooth is slightly more expensive, takes up more room, and would only be open after dinner. I am so torn! Thoughts? What unique entertainment are you having at your wedding?

I think that a caricature artist is an awesome idea!!! I was torn myself with the photo booth idea. I've been to so many weddings that have them and they are definitely fun, but the caricature artist is definitely more personal.

Definitely would prefer a caricature artist as a guest! I have plenty of photobooth photos that say "Congrats Jim and Sally!" on the bottom, and it gets old after a while. FH and I tend to not gravitate towards photobooths anymore. Caricature is unique and not often offered at weddings I've been to so that's a cool and fun twist! Also doesn't hurt that it's cheaper than the over-done and expected photobooth!

I agree!! A caricature is something you could actually put in your house and show off! It also doubles as another wedding favor!

I’ve only been to one wedding with a caricature artist and it resulted in a super long line most of the night and not a lot of people on the dance floor. So that would be my only hesitation. Maybe ask how long it takes to do each portrait?

Thank you for your input! I would love for guests to get something unique rather than just a bunch of photo strips to lose!

Oh yeah, that's a good question! I'll definitely have to ask them about the time to draw one! That was also my thought with having them available during the cocktail hour!

Hi shannon.sv! I agree, caricature is super unique and not common at weddings! I would personally love this! Smiley heart That's great that this vendor is reasonably priced, too!

Thanks for your input! I think it would also be super cute to be able to get our own portrait drawn at the wedding!

I prefer photo booths. We have pictures from several wedding photo booths & I've hung all of them in our home!

Just curious, are they the photo strips? Or the ones that are 3x5 (or normal sized, you know)?

Most are photo strips but one did normal sized! Our wedding has a photo booth but they don't print them, they just give us a disc at the end of the night. I'm going to print them out and send them with thank you cards!

These were my 2 options too. I asked my bridesmaids & they all said photobooth so did my FH. I think people like they photobooth option at weddings more.

My biggest concern with the artist would be the long wait. Even if there's technically enough time to do them for everyone, which will depend on how many guests you have (so I would confirm this with the artist), people may not want to stand in line. I always prefer photobooths but I am biased because we're having one. They're quick, fun, and you get to take home a few photos of the night. We'll be doing ours as 3 x 5 photos rather than strips and I'm going to ask our photobooth company if they'll do two copies - one of just the photo and one with our names on the bottom.

I think it depends a bit on the size of your wedding. Mine had 185 guests and I don't think there would be a way to get through that many guests during the reception. I did a photo booth and it was awesome. I think if your guest size is such that the artist can get through all the guests (without them having to spend much time in a line as that wouldn't be fun), then i'd totally go for it! It would be what people remember about your wedding, that is for sure :-)

Maybe have people take numbers (like at a deli counter) so that there isn't a line that guests have to hold their place in.... so they can dance, go to the bar, etc. and just check in periodically to see where their number is in line.

A caricature artist is a cute idea but it just sounds impractical unless you had a really small wedding. I want to be celebrating, not standing around waiting for so long. I vote photo booth just because it's quick and easy

I think we're leaning towards a photobooth now....Our wedding isn't going to be HUGE, but I would honestly feel bad if someone didn't get a chance to get a caricature if they wanted one.

Maybe instead of people queuing, people could be invited by table number... or by all those with birthdays in January... then Feb...
