Caricature artist at wedding?

Kristen, on July 12, 2018 at 10:06 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

Has anyone ever hired a caricature artist for their wedding? I keep hearing from people that it's not much more expensive than having a photobooth. I can't seem to find any near me though

It depends. I went on gig masters and I got someone for 240 for 4 hours but I got a lot of other quotes for 500 to 750 for that time range.

This is such a cute idea and something really fun for all ages! Where will your wedding be happening? I would be happy to help you search for artists in your area!

I hired a live wedding painter to paint the ceremony... a little entertainment for my guests to watch her in action and a beautiful keepsake for my future hubby & I. Caricature would’ve been a fun idea too, never thought of that!

What’s the ratio of guests being able to get this done? How would this work as for who’s next? How long would each person/couple take? There’s a lot of factors to consider.

I agree - I wouldn't want to have anything at my reception unless I was sure almost all of my guests would be able to use it. I'd definitely get all this info before making a decision!

Ok so i've looked it up and there are a lot in the Atlanta area near me! It seems that they can do about 15-20 faces per artist per hour, depending on their experience level. I would probably use 2 artists, as FH and I don't want our guest list going over 120 people. In 3.5 hours, 2 artists could theoretically draw 119 people. Also, realistically, I know some of my guests won't care to have it done; and I probably won't have that many guests due to people unable to come. Sidenote: I would be doing B&W because colors take longer

There are also some digital options around here- they use a tablet instead of traditional paper and marker, this is more expensive due to equipment but they can have a large screen showing them doing the art so those in line or in the vicinity can watch.

Additionally, some of the artist pages I looked at said they can work off of pictures of people. (i.e during dinner)

I had a caricaturist and it was a hit! I don’t remember how much he cost because my mom booked him. But he was booked for 2 hours and we kept him 30 minutes more because people enjoyed it. He started after dinner ended. We also had a lady doing semi permanent tattoos. All this was happening while the dance floor was active. So people could dance or take a break with a more quiet activity. Maybe I’m biased but people seemed really happy. Would recommend. Ours took about 5minites or less and he did 2 people at a time.

Just keep in mind you may not be able to get as many photos from a caricature artist than a booth..especially if you have a significant amount of guests. You can try looking on thumbtack or gigsalad for people in your area.
