Nothing to do with here's a box please give us money.. but just a place for guests to put cards if they brought them?

Just to add there will be NO sign that says anything to the tune of money goes here, help us pay for our honeymoon, etc etc. Just a simple box for cards. There have been so many posts about asking for money at the wedding and putting up a sign, and squishing cake in your husbands face for cash, I just wanted to make sure the traditional card box was still acceptable.

I saw this on etsy and thought it would be cute!

I say necessary! You need a safe place for guests to put cards.

I'm doing advice cards for guests to fill out. Simply how the guests know us, where are they from and any advice. They will then be instructed to put them in the card box (the same one wedding cards go in). Later I plan to put them in an album. More personal than just a name written in a book.

That is too cute! I had a basket instead with a little sign. But I agree with @Melody, Have someone you trust like Mom or Aunt, to keep an eye on it, and after a certain time, bring it closer to the wedding cake or signing book table, so its not hard to keep an eye on. Once dinner is served, its safe to put the box away...any guests that arrive past that time, will hand you the car/gift directly.

I made something similar to your pic - unfortunately I don't have a pic to post. But I got a cheap, $10 metal mailbox at walmart and spray painted it dark purple (main wedding color). I ordered a decal off etsy for about $6 and voila! I love it!
