Card Boxes are okay... right??

JuJuBee, on January 8, 2017 at 5:21 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 26

It's okay to have a card box at our wedding right - do people still do that?

Nothing to do with here's a box please give us money.. but just a place for guests to put cards if they brought them?

Just to add there will be NO sign that says anything to the tune of money goes here, help us pay for our honeymoon, etc etc. Just a simple box for cards. There have been so many posts about asking for money at the wedding and putting up a sign, and squishing cake in your husbands face for cash, I just wanted to make sure the traditional card box was still acceptable.

I saw this on etsy and thought it would be cute!

Yes. A box in which your guests can put their cards to you is acceptable.

Also, from personal experience, make sure that there is *some* room for physical gifts.

I thought this was a joke at first.. it's not. Thank goodness.

The mailbox is cute!! It could then be used as your actual mailbox

Yes, a card box is totally fine! Every wedding I've been to has had a card box and a designated area for physical gifts.

I would think it's still okay to have a box for cards. :-)

Not to be the negative one, but I'd recommend a box that someone couldn't open up and reach their hand into. You never know.

Okay awesome! Thanks everyone! I just wanted to make sure before I purchased one that it wasn't taboo or gift grabby! A saw a post earlier this week and the person wanted to have one with a sign that said cash here, it got me thinking perhaps card boxes aren't done anymore.

@denigris good point! I've seen a lot that are locked but just none that I liked. I came across the mail box and thought it was cute. Especially since I'll be able to repurpose it has home decor after!

Absolutely ok! This also makes it easier to have all your cards in one place and helps with not losing them Smiley smile

@OGAlecia we will be leaving room on the table for physical gifts as well but as it's a destination wedding for our guests I don't imagine many since everyone will be flying. But we are certainly leaving room to accommodate them.

A card box is definitely acceptable. As you said any sort of sign ASKING for money is not.

Id recommend a more secure box. People get skicky fingers. Not necessarily your guests but other People around as well. It Happens.

    Card boxes are totally fine!

FYI, I'd make sure its not so easy to get into and a place where it will be noticed if it goes missing. There are always horror stories of them being stolen.

We are doing one. I ALWAYS bring a card as a gift with money in it to at least pay for our plates whenever I attend a wedding.
