Cape instead of veil?!?

Littlefoot, on January 12, 2014 at 4:08 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

You guys. YOU GUYS. I think I want to wear a cape on my wedding day!! I've never heard of wearing a cape in place of a veil until @We'llAlwaysHaveParis gave me the idea! Has anyone done this before or know someone who has? I'd love to get some ideas and find out where to buy one. My wedding will be a warm, nature/forest wedding, so I think it's very fitting.

I was looking at capes on Pinterest, and my favorite so far is this one: http://www.flip-zone.net/fashion/bridal/couture/zelia-sur-la-terre-comme-au-ciel-2366. But it's a foreign site and I doubt I'd be able to buy that one... (You might have to scroll 5 pictures to the right to see the cape). It kind of looks like it's covered in leaves! xD

You could always do a veil and a cape. The only time I don't like capes are when they take away from the dress or cover it. My friend wore one for her winter wedding and used it for a few photos then took it off for the reception.

I think for a few pictures it would be pretty, but not for the whole ceremony. I'd personally prefer to see your dress.

Well I'm wanting a lace or sheer cape, not a thick, winter one. My wedding will be in the summer so my dress will be fully visable whatever I do. And I would definitely have some pics with and some pics without.

I also like this cape: http://www.stylemepretty.com/gallery/picture/702967/

There is a lady on Etsy that makes custom capes that I think are GORGEOUS! If FH and I stick with a cold-weather date, I am so getting one of her waist-length ones in burgundy with ivory lining, to match our colors and my dress. They're trimmed in faux fur and have the hood and everything. I think they're SO pretty!!!

Edit: I would only be wearing the cape for outdoor pics and going from ceremony to reception.

I had one!!!!! I don't have my professional pictures back yet but I wore my veil for my ceremony and my cape for pictures outside! I will have to let you know how they came out but I loved it so much. I think it could be done well with a sheer one like the second one you posted, it'd just depend on the dress and the cape!

@mollishism that sounds sooo pretty!! I also love winter capes, especially the long kind! And I think I'd only wear the cape for part of the day as well.

@futuremrsh hahaha that's what my FH thought too! He thought I was talking about a batman cape lol

@jillian oooo I can't wait to see your pictures!!! That's amazing!! xD and thank you!!

@Littlefoot: the lady also makes longer ones, including ones long enough to completely cover a dress's train! The lady's shop is this: https://www.etsy.com/shop/capeandcrown13

The first pic is the color (well, outer. She didn't have any burgundy/ivory ones up) and the second is the length I want. She does them all custom though. I love them!
