Can’t find a venue within Budget.... Help!!

Janessa, on January 9, 2020 at 1:47 PM Posted in Massachusetts Planning 0 26
Hi Everyone,

So FH and I have been touring venues like crazy. Our budget is 25K and that doesn’t include the cost for photographer, Dj, dress and whatever else we need to spend. I’m starting to feel here in MA, 25k is unrealistic for 175 people. Oh and I’m so over these venues with these high minimum spend costs. What the heck! Anyone else living in MA struggling ?

Close enough. I’m in southern NH near Dracut/Lowell and looked at places in MA, too. I found quite a few affordable places in MA, but it depends on what season, too, and where.
I’m getting married in Hampton, NH at the Victoria Inn. Quite affordable!

We plan on getting married on June 12 2021. I considered NH and CT but I think that may to be too far of a drive for our guests. We have a few coming from Europe and Canada.

I live in Nevada, my fiancé and I had a hard time finding a reasonable place to have our wedding. We finally found an Elk lodge out here. Our wedding budget is pretty much $5,000. We have the venue paid for already. Try an Elks lodge or maybe like a Girl Scout cabin. Those places tend to be cheaper. Good luck

Another alternative to consider is a restaurant. With that large a wedding, you may be able to take over the whole restaurant. And a restaurant often won't charge anything at all for venue rental, so long as you're getting the food and drink from them.

    I second this.

You can frequently do a full restaurant buy out at a nice restuarant for around 15 - 20k minimum food and beverage on a Saturday evening (at least those were the numbers I was finding in my area). It will also cut down on decor as restaurants usually don't need much.

We are having our ceremony at a local park ($20 an hour to rent to space) and then an Elks Lodge type of reception hall. It's helped us save a ton of money!

I don't live there but in Sedona I had a few venues give me a 10k food minimum for a guest list of under 30. I was appalled.

Whereabouts in MA are you? I can look for some places for you, too.

That’s insane. You should be spending less than 5k for under 30.

We live in Boston. A lot of places I’ve seen so far have been outside of Boston with ridiculous quotes. We are looking for a decent looking place, that way I don’t have to spend much on decor.

Agreed. I honestly think it was a deterrent. They bring in more money with larger guest counts. My wedding was probably a joke in their eyes.

I have not but it seems too small our minimum is 150 guest and they accommodate up to 120.

Oh, sorry - I didn't even look at that. The Andover Country Club is nice. Not too far north from Boston, right off 93.

Butternut Farm in Stow is in your price range. Looks nice, too!

Have you tried Mayflower Venues? They have more rustic New England venue options on the site.

Yes . We are now looking into possibly renting out a big house and doing everything from scratch . Our max is 200 and with venues and their plated option pricing , that will be close to our overall budge on just food 😩 have you tried surrounding cities ?

I would highly recommend Lyman Estate in Waltham - they have more flexible pricing for Friday and off season weddings!

Check out Endicott Estate in Dedham MA. Off season pricing is available and the staff is wonderful to work with. It’s also beautiful too!

We ended up with Danversport. Literally, everyplace we went to had similar pricing so we just went with it instead. I also didn’t want to settle for a place I don’t see myself getting married. A lot of the other ladies suggested really nice places but I’m not in love with the rustic look or the terrible carpets.
