Can’t decide a wedding date…help!

Mera, on February 11, 2022 at 11:38 PM Posted in Planning 3 3
I can’t decide between July 3rd, July 4th, July 2nd and September 4th 2023.

Orginally I wanted to do September 3rd but we just can’t afford it at my dream venue.
July 3rd pros: most people will have the next day & the day before off. It’s the cheapest date saves us about $2500
Cons: people will have to ask for the day off in between that Sunday (the 2nd) and the 4th of july
July 2nd & 4th pros: 2nd is $500 cheaper, 4th is $1500 cheaper and most people will have the day off
Cons: will have to take off to get back to work the following day. & Some people might have 4th of July plans.
September 4th pros: about $1500 cheaper & people will have the day off
Cons: people will have work/school the next day
Our wedding is already relatively small because most of my fiancés family lives overseas so our guest list is about 60 people and I would hate if less than half could attend because we picked a date that didn’t work for most. Also just trying to pick the cheapest date there is. Almost our whole guest list is coming in from out of town. I’m probably over thinking this more than I should be but I need an opinion!

Our wedding is on a Monday in January in order to save money. But part of the other reason why we did that was because knowing that our wedding is destination already, people were going to need to take time off no matter when it was! If the majority of your guest list is going to be traveling to come to your wedding you might have a little more flexibility there in which date works for people than you think you do Smiley smile

We are doing May 28, 2022-Saturday on Memorial Day weekend. It would be cheaper to do it on another day but our venue had that date open, it’s a long weekend for most and we have quite a few out of state people including half of our wedding party, and it gives me extra time to spend with those who came from out of state. Plus we will have Monday off work so we can relax after the crazy weekend and get ready for the honeymoon. Sometimes the cost savings are more important.

It's very nice that you are thinking about your guests and trying not to inconvenience them! I would say though not to make it the most important factor in your decision. We realized early on in planning that you'll never be able to please everybody. We are having our wedding Saturday May 21st because our church doesn't hold weddings other days of the week, so the Friday Rehearsal Dinner will still be an inconvenience to those who have to come to that event but are Mon-Fri 8-5 working people like myself. I believe you will find that people are more gracious than you think, and may even enjoy getting an excuse to take off if they have the means to! More are also starting to be more empathetic about couples having to make certain choices due to budgets. Whatever you decide, make sure above all that YOU and your fiancé feel good about the day you have chosen and how it affects your budget.
