Hi,

My wedding date is getting closer and I am worried I won't be able to afford my own wedding dress! My fiance and I are from different cultures (countries) and in my country groom's parents and the groom pay for the entire wedding including the bride's wedding dress. The bride's family pays for a big engagement party and groom's tux for the wedding day.

I already told my parents that we can't expect it to be our way so my fiance and i decided to share our wedding cost. However, because traditionally the groom buys the bride's dress in my culture (we believe it's bad luck to buy your own wedding dress) my parents are assuming that he will still get it for me. And my parents already bought him a fancy suit.

If I had the money I'd go get my own dress and tell my parents my FI got it. (I can't tell them he won't) But I don't have any money to pay for a dress. And I don't know how to ask my FI if he could get me a dress. Because that will sound weird to him. So depressed.

I'm curious...what two different cultures are you from?

I just told my FH we'll be chainging into Nigerian attire to represent my culture and he was like "what?" lol. He'll get over it as my family footed 99.9% of the wedding Smiley smile

I'm originally Turkish. I really didn't think cultural differences were such a big deal until he proposed me and we started planning our wedding. I like it though, because it makes everything much more fun. I just get stressed out sometimes, but hopefully I will find something I can afford! Smiley smile I keep looking at online dresses. That's probably what I'm going to do in the end.

David's bridal and most other places offer financing so you don't have to pay for it all at once I think at David's you only have to put down like 1/3 or something Cuz I was thinking of financing a $300 dress and it was only gonna be like 90$ down maybe less. So maybe put some $ down and make payments on it.

I’m also looking for some type of input on my situation. I purchased my wedding dress online for less than $400 and it accidentally charge my Fiancé card. He charged me for the dress, now it feels like this is a transactional relationship. And in my opinion it took all the excitement away when he gave me attitude for accidentally charging his card.
