Candy buffet question...

What should the guests put the candy in? I know a lot of people use the plastic bags, but what size? I also see some people use the chinese take-out containers, is that practical? Which one is better?

Natasha- We are definitely watching that very carefully! I found 200 2 inch gumballs on Ebay for 16.99 that will fill an entire vase. That was a relief!

Also the blog I read suggested 8-12 different candy options. If you are doing candies in your wedding colors, bear in mind that the candy table has the potential to add tremendously to your decor. So if you have larger jars, I would opt for fewer options and just buy a lot of the things you choose. You want to fill up your jars. If you have smaller jars, you can go for more choices. But you'll probably need an attendant to refill the jars. Another one of my lessons learned, the venue set up the candy table right next to the wall/windows. We put the extra candy underneath b/c the table was skirted. In hindsight, we should have pulled the table away from the wall a bit so the girls could refill the jars from the back side instead of having to contend with the guests from the front of the table.

If any of y'all doing a candy buffet are anywhere near central Ohio you need to go to the Tropical Fruit and Nut Outlet in Grove City. I got case (a 12x12x12 box) of chocolate eggs for $5.00, an 10pound bag of pink Jelly Belly's for $10, a 10 pound bag of peach rings for $7.99... you never know what they will have, but it is worth a stop. They even have fancy chocolates in a dispaly case for like $2.50 a pound.... favor box fillers!! They also have always had Jordan Almonds for under $3 a pound.

Ladylee you have a lot of great advice, thanks. Brook those prices are amazing, I wish I lived closer to that place, I am in Cali. I need to start looking around for the right bags. I am running out of time.

My friend is talking about giving me some cupcake boxes, but the way she described them sounds like they are pretty big. I may look around for organza bags.

What about Candy Tins instead? You could decorate the outside with your own labels too (just go to office max and get the big avery labels and make something up your self on your printer at home).

I found these really cute little boxes with hearts and stuff on them for cheap at Oriental Trading. They are kinda like the little chinese boxes but I'm not sure if they still have them or what, i got them right after Valentine's Day. I think they are so cute!

@ Ana, Where did you get your bags? I like the organza bags so much better than the ugly white paper ones I posted.

I just saw those letter shaped dishes recently. I'm trying to remember where. jersey bride that is a great inspiration pic. My inspiration pic really pushed me to do one too. I wouldn't have thought of Reese's pieces for fall colors. That's fab! Anxious to see how it turns out for you.

I'm having one of these for mine. I have got a lot of the jars already for it even a gum ball machine for it =). For my guest I'm using little glass jars that are about 3 to 4 oz I'm going to put pink and black ribbons around the top and a K on the jar with a hug and kiss in each jar with a little note in it that says "thank you for joining us on our special please help yourself to the candy buffet"

Check out HOT REF they have many different candy or mint tins that you can choose from and they are reasonably priced.. they are big enough for your guest to fit a portion on candy into yet small enough that thye will not over indulge.. Good Luck

Quick tip - There are lots of container choices that don't have to be typical, expensive or allow your guests to get crazy. Pillow boxes, smaller organza bags, kraft bags, cellophane bags, Chinese take out boxes, small glass jars from Ikea that double as escort cards, fabric bags or even small burlap bags if you are having a rustic country chic wedding look cute without breaking the bank. Happy planning!
