Candles... real or fake?

Erica, on August 14, 2019 at 1:54 AM Posted in Style and Décor 1 41
Hello everyone, I've been looking at different options for my reception tables and I can decide whether I should use LED candles or real candles. LED Pros: no dripping wax to clean up, smokeless, not a fire hazard. Cons: looking fake. What did you use or are planning to use? And if you have pics of how they looked on your big day that would be awesome. Thanks for the feed back.

Before you make the purchase check your contracts. My caterer, venue, and event insurance did not allow real candles. For some old buildings or some contractors it’s too big of a liability.

Thanks for your feedback. And I checked the contract... we are allowed to use real candles however the flame has to be 2in below the top of the holder/votive.

My venue doesn’t allow for real candles. I ended up buying some LED ones on amazon. To help it not look so fake chose one with a natural melting edge(if that makes sense) instead of an even edge, with a flickering light.

I know that they’re a little high maintenance, but I prefer real candles. We’re allowed to use them at our venue so that’s our plan.

I wish our venue allowed real candles but for liability purposes we aren't allowed. So the LED candles have to work.

We're using LED candles in our votives. They, actually, came with the votives we bought so we didn't have to buy other candles. I like real candles better, though!

Like most pps my venue doesn't allow real candles. I prefer LED candles anyway just because of how much easier/safer it makes things. Once they're in the votives they look just as beautiful anyway.

I like real candles too. However, I think it might be cost effective to use the fake ones and cleaner...but i really like the real glow of real ones and the flicker of the light. Thanks for the input.

That's nice that the votives and LEDs came together. Where did you get your votives from?

I got them from another bride that was selling them after her wedding! I got 30 more votives from Amazon but just remembered that I need to get candles for those lol.

Good idea. What are you using the fairy lights in? Or are you going to just put them down the table like a table runner?

I'm going with fake. All it takes is one clumsy or drink person to have a fire and I can't be bothered to find decorations that meet my venues candle requirements.
I will say for inside decorations I find fairy lights really charming. I also reuse my fake candles on Halloween in my pumpkins or other occasions so extras don't bother me.
If you don't have to go around and light them and your venue allows it real ones are likely cheaper

Are you going to have kids at the wedding and if you are how young? Even if the venue we chose allowed real candles I still would have chosen the led candles since our son will be 18 months old and our daughter is 3 and there will be 2 other young kids at our wedding.

We had real candles! I don’t have many pics from the dinner part of the night because it was still light out so you can’t really see them lit and burning. But we had the gold candles lined amongst the eucalyptus garland runner at the guests tables.

We are doing LED because our venue requires an open flame permit if we do real (it is inside of a theater - curtains, ropes, etc all over the place). I did a fake set up of a table with the LED and it didn't look any less better than it would with real in my opinion
