My wedding is scheduled for Cancun in 82 days. I'm not one to ignore warnings;and I don't want to put my family in harm's way. My wedding is scheduled for Cancun in 82 days. I'm not one to ignore warnings;and I don't want to put my family in harm's way. We travel all over the world; and this is the first time we'll travel where there is warning due to recent issues in the tourism area assault, kidnapping and robbing ETC. Everything is covered by insurance and we can move the trip to any destination of choice or FULL REFUND. At this point I'm a bit devastated; and I've put over 10 months into this. I love everything about the resort and my wedding package. I'm not really feeling planning all over again at the 82 day mark. Am I over thinking the warning; and should continue with wedding? or at this point elope/honeymoon;and send Just Married Announcements.

I don't get the fear. There is crime everywhere. Do you or your guests not travel to any major US city? Gang related violence, kidnappings, robberies, etc. happen everywhere and they are usually personal, not random acts against tourists. As with anywhere in the world, practice street smarts, and you'll likely be fine. I like that Jessica and Abbie mentioned that other countries have placed travel warnings for the US. That's something a lot of Americans need to think about, especially in the current political climate. Plenty of awful things happen everyday but it doesn't stop everyone from going about their daily lives or traveling to and within the country.

I think you are over thinking it. My sis just got back from cancun and was fine. Also, my Dr. traveled there and is fine. As long as you are cautious and stay in the tourist area you should be fine. Wherever you possibly move the wedding to there is potential danger. In the U.S there is danger etc. I say keep the wedding in Mexico.

In all honesty, Mexico is ALWAYS on and off the travel advisory list for as long as I can remember. If you reschedule, there is a huge chance there will be a travel advisory then too.

Just got married in Cancun on August 13th. We had a party of 60 stay for 7 nights at Iberostar Cancun. It was absolutely amazing. Best decision I've ever made and EVERYONE we were with had a great time, and nobody got sick or felt unsafe (we even went off the resort several times). I totally understand where you're coming from. All of the articles were coming out right before we left and I had a melt down, I tried to cancel and switch everything but it was too late (no travelers insurance). I cried everyday for two weeks leading up to the wedding and was so stressed out but honestly it was so worth every bit of stress and I stressed for nothing! It was the best day/trip of my life and I can't wait to go back. Be a cautious traveler no matter where you go, use the buddy system, if you go off of the resort set it up through the front desk, hydrate hydrate hydrate. You will have a wonderful time!
