My wedding is scheduled for Cancun in 82 days. I'm not one to ignore warnings;and I don't want to put my family in harm's way. My wedding is scheduled for Cancun in 82 days. I'm not one to ignore warnings;and I don't want to put my family in harm's way. We travel all over the world; and this is the first time we'll travel where there is warning due to recent issues in the tourism area assault, kidnapping and robbing ETC. Everything is covered by insurance and we can move the trip to any destination of choice or FULL REFUND. At this point I'm a bit devastated; and I've put over 10 months into this. I love everything about the resort and my wedding package. I'm not really feeling planning all over again at the 82 day mark. Am I over thinking the warning; and should continue with wedding? or at this point elope/honeymoon;and send Just Married Announcements.

We've traveled to Mexico 4 times over the past years and have never had a problem. My husband has traveled to Mexico for work numerous times and has never had a problem.

Be careful, be aware but I would not cancel your wedding.

I'm getting married in Mexico in 2018. I still plan on having the wedding in Mexico despite the warning. If the guest do not want to become because they feel it is dangerous that is their choice. Let them make the decision. If you feel safe enough to go, go get married. Your guests will decide what's best for them.

For what it's worth, the U.K. Issued a travel warning for the US and the NAACP had a travel warning for Missouri

First of all are you actually getting married in Mexico? I would cancel and reschedule for another location due to the children. I will not bring my children to a location that has travel warnings. I went to Greece and Egypt a few years ago and we left our little children back for safety reasons.

Listen to the warnings. We were going to honey moon in Mexico but can't now because FH is military and they "strongly advised" choosing a different location

There are things that happen like this all the time. I have been to mexico several times and made it back safe and sound. If you stay in the resort and don't venture out into places alone you should be fine. I am also assuming that your guests have already purchased their airfare at this point? Go have an amazing wedding!

I definitely would heed the warnings. Safety of you and your guests should be your priority. Something bad may not happen- but if it does- I think you'll regret your choice. And when you're kidnapped, or robbed at gunpoint and are hoping you live- will you still think it's a good idea ?

It's your day . You do what you want but I'd be safe

I'd still go. There is crime and danger everywhere (see all the terrorist attacks in major cities) so I wouldn't cancel.

I agree with PPs. I think it should depend on your guests and whether they sre nervous or not. I just got back from Cancun. I never felt anything other then safe. Im also going to Cabo in 2 weeks. Mexico is a beautiful country. Unfortunately, bad things happen everywhere. I personally would not cancel.

Meh, I'm heading to Quintana Roo in a few weeks for the second time this year. I'll be there this time for three weeks, on the island of Cozumel. Every few years there's an uptick in these warnings. Personally, I've never felt unsafe.

Kidnapping is mention at the very beginning of the travel.gov website in reference to the travel advisory. https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/alertswarnings/mexico-travel-warning.html

I wouldn't cancel. I've never been to Mexico, but I have traveled in Southeast Asia under a safety warning from the US embassy without any issues. I think that knowledge of the situation is important in using your best judgement and exercising caution in these situations. Best of luck to you, OP!

    Yes, you are overthinking.

Please do a search for the myriad of other threads posted quite recently regarding travel to Mexico.

Then go do a Google search for murder, kidnapping and whatever other crime statistics you choose for major US cities and compare to the place you will be traveling in Mexico.

THEN, go do a Google search for the travel warnings for the UNITED STATES, issued quite recently, by countries such as Germany, France, Norway and Canada, and think hard about your initial reaction (I mean you very first, gut instinct reaction) to those warnings.

Then you can make a significantly more informed decision about whether it's a reasonable choice to completely scrap your wedding plans. I'm not a betting woman, but I'd wager good money you'll decide to proceed with plans as usual.

I travel very frequently and have never really regarded the US state department warnings. They are designed to give all the information to advise government agencies for their personnel, and they tend to have an alarmist view that does not reflect the average person's experience. The advisory for Cancun is quite mild in my opinion. I would recommend taking a look at wikitravel.org which may give you a more realistic view of the danger level.
