Can your guests throw petals during the recessional???

Bree, on September 18, 2016 at 1:44 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

My wedding venue doesn't allow candles or sparklers or anything for a "send off" and it will be dark when me and my FH leave... I want to do something for people to wish us luck but I don't know WHEN to do it.. After we say "i do" and walk back down the aisle together (recessional) can our guests throw petals on us then? I don't know when else to do it lol any ideas???

Yes, I've also seen pictures that look really cool with confetti thrown as you're walking back down the aisle. I've also heard of people using glow sticks for the "send-off", maybe your venue would allow that?

I think it sounds like a good idea, but you should ask your venue if throwing petals would be allowed during the recessional. If not, they may be able to provide a list of things other couples have chosen to do there.

We are doing a petal throw during the recessional. Our venue has similar rules and the reception is at the same place as the ceremony. Also, it is an evening wedding, so those with kids will likely leave earlier than a send-off would happen, so we aren't bothering with one.

Check with your venue- if they allow petals, I'm sure your guests can. I doubt they will allow confetti (nightmare to clean up). You probably will only be able to use fresh petals if it is an outdoor ceremony, as well.

Our venue does the "exit" after the ceremony, as we leave the wedding pavilion. We will be doing petals, and basically it's just a big photo op. Then everyone heads over to the reception.

I have the same issue and here's what I'm doing for our send off. The lights can be ordered from Etsy. We are just going to do a balloon release. I've already talked to my photographer too so she will be prepared as I'm hoping for some great shots!

^^Ew, balloon releases are awful, unless they're biodegradable balloons. If they have lights in them, that's even worse. Cool photo op, but don't release them!

Please please do not release balloons! This injures and kills so many animals Smiley sad

Well we are leaving the venue when it's dark... My venue and reception are all in the same place. I wanted the opportunity to get some pictures of peopl throwing something, especially something easy to clean up. Thanks for all your input

I was going to say what heather did!

It is essentially littering! So many animals are getting hurt over balloons, not to mention the fact they can hit power lines. Great for pictures but keep them on the ground!

I've always loved bubbles. Easy clean up and it creates some really cute pictures. Just a back up thought in case your venue doesn't allow the petals for clean up reasons.
