Can I see some pictures of brides who did their own makeup?

Jenny, on May 16, 2017 at 9:40 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

Very disappointed with my makeup trial. I am not great with makeup but thinking of learning myself. Not sure if it's a good idea

I didn't but I know some brides on here have or plan to. I would be wary for you to do it yourself if you are not already familiar with doing makeup. Brides who do their own makeup are generally very experienced with it. I would like to see pics of your trial if you are willing to share! I didn't like my first trial so I found a different MUA and was very pleased with her work. I think getting a pro to do it is worth it, so if I were you I would just look for another MUA.

Get another trial- or find another artist.

The amount of time and energy it takes to learn is not negligible.

You'll spend a lot on products- even going to the drug store you're likely to invest over 100$ into product.

And at that point you're over half way to just hiring someone.

I did my make up for a photoshoot in the morning. Then had my pro do it for the ceremony.

I'm very adept with make up- I still think she did a better job than I did.

Make up is a skill ... if you are good at make up i would say do it your self ... but if not then get a mua it is not just second nature to throw on some falsies or do the perfect contour... it takes time and skill of done wrong it will look bad

I am most likely doing my own, I have tried letting others do my makeup but I always end up making my own adjustments.. but I am also very comfortable with my makeup (even thinking about going to school to become a MUA) so if you're not as comfortable doing your own I would suggest finding another MUA or at least taking a few classes to learn some basics

Schedule another trial and specify what you did and didn't like the first time. I wasn't happy with my first trial either but was happy the second time around.

It really is a skill, and using and trying good products that work with your skin tone/skin type/achieve the look you're going for is not cheap..

Id do another trial or find a new artist - they're artists for a reason

This is my third MU trial already. I'm Asian and live in a predominantly white area - not a lot of people can contour and work with the monolid. So far the eyeshadow has been very disappointing. I'll see if I can't recover a picture, I was so disappointed I deleted them

Sorry this isn't a very good one, I found it from a text I sent to my friend afterwards. My first reaction was that it looked worse than my normal everyday makeup. I did ask for a more natural look (romantic glow is what she called it) but I feel like she just 70s winged my eyes and didn't do much else

Svetlana- thank you (I feel like I'm spamming the board this morning with my pictures LMAO)

I'll add to Lucille's comment- my travel kit for my make up adds up to about 265$.

My hair AND make up cost me 300. (150 per service)

Seriously- unless you are committed to this process... just hire a pro.

Yeah- that make up is not good make up at all.

    Check IG- #MYCITYMUA or #MYSTATEMUA

you should be able to find someone locally.

I am not that good at the high definition highlighting at all. I bought a lip starter kit from motives and it is holding better than most for me. For work I do next to nothing because I wear the ever sexy PPE.

@Lucille, I actually do have nice products I guess, the prices you mentioned actually seemed low (we must both shop at sephora because I'm pretty sure I have that same eyebrow gel) but only have used them for my regular business day routine

@OP I get the hooded eyes struggle - when I open my eyes, my eyeshadow disappears unless I really take the crease up - theres a fine line between no eyeshadow visible and eyeshadow up to my eyebrows.

But maybe find a different artist, because it really does look plain - need some contour, blush, fill in your brows.. I agree, its underwhelming

@Chip, I'd really like to find someone who can do a smoky eye for Asians. I don't know why but whenever we've tried it just looks hideously fake on me like Mimi from the Drew Carey show

Hmm I'll have to look at the talc thing. Lately I've been getting into a korean skincare routine, which is lovely but making me look dewy-er than I'd like. That's another fine-line haha, dewy vs greasy

If you keep it simple, then it's alright to do your own makeup! YouTube tutorials are great. I never wear makeup, but I plan to learn a basic natural look to even out my skin tone and ask one of my bridesmaids to help me out with mascara choice.
