Can i order 2 wedding cakes from different bakeries?

Adwoa, on January 12, 2020 at 10:03 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9
We are deciding between two bakeries for our wedding cake. Each has a distinct flavors we like that the other does not offer. Is it ok to order one cake from each bakery? We wouldn’t display both cakes (one bakery is much better at design) so thinking of ordering our showcase cake from one bakery with flavor 1 and sheet cake with flavor 2 from bakery 2 that would be cut in the kitchen. Thoughts? What do I tell the sheet cake bakery? That it’s for a wedding ?

Sure why not! I am ordering a groom's cake from one bakery and then our main cake from another bakery with different flavor profiles

I’d say this depends on the bakery. The bakery we used and a few of the other ones in our area actually include in their wedding contracts that they’ll be the only place providing desserts (outside of favors if edible) because they wouldn’t want to take on the liability of being sued if someone got ill/had an allergic reaction from another bakery’s food.

We're doing that. We're buying a small cutting cake at a bakery, and then buying a full slab cake from a good grocery store for guests. No problem with doing that, and very cost effective in my eyes.

That’s the part I was worried about because I know some other vendors put that type of wording in their contracts. We haven’t seen contracts from either so I’m unsure of that oart

I’m doing the same thing. We just ordered our two tier cake from the bakery and then we’ll order some sheet cakes from Costco for our guests. I don’t think guests will mind and it’s a very cost effective way to do it.

I'd just straight up ask both then if they have any exclusivity provisions in their contract. I can definitely see how some vendors might, but then others do not. I think it varies a lot by vendor. Daughter's baker (a small, independent cupcake shop that also does wedding cakes) barely had anything I'd call a contract. They wrote out the order specifications on an order sheet and attached a copy of the receipt to it -- that was it, and I'm pretty sure we could have done anything else and they would not have known/cared. But there were other bakers daughter considered, including higher-end, very much "specialty wedding cake vendors," who I would not have been surprised if they had a more detailed contract and exclusions. You don't have to necessarily say you'll have another wedding cake, but just ask if they have any restrictions regarding desserts from other vendors.

If you’re having a rehearsal dinner, welcome event or farewell event you could perhaps use one baker for wedding and one for the other event. Obviously don’t need a big fancy designed cake for the any events above and beyond the wedding itself.

I say yes, definitely!! However, I'm not sure if you've noticed but, no matter the vendor, if you say the word, wedding, they add to the price!! So, I would not tell the sheet cake bakery it's for a wedding, because I would be afraid it would make it cost more.. Just a suggestion!! Congratulations on the wedding and good luck with everything!!

I dont see anything wrong with it. The sheetcake bakery doesn't need to know it's a wedding.
