If I were you, I'd talk to them. I just hate to see granny all sad and left out. Maybe you can give them each a single rose or something that would be way cheaper, but they'd still feel included.

I certainly wouldn't!! Besides what does that save you, $20? Find it elsewhere IMO...

Make them yourself! Buy a rose plus 1 piece of greenery and wrap florist's tape around it.

No, the grandparents have to have flowers. they're going to be in the photos of the wedding party including immediate family so it would look weird if everyone had flowers but them. if the price of your boutonniers is that high, you picked the wrong florist, hate to tell you. you could always make them yourself the day of the wedding, get some cut flowers from the market, tape them together and pin it on. done.

Why don't you cut all of them excpet maybe the groom then it won't look weird that they do not have them. All the GM will take off their jackets as soon as possible and the flower will get all balled up. In the pics most of the time they are tilted to the side...then you add all the hugs and they get smooshed. If money is that tight don't do them for anyone. Maybe go on Etsy or ebay and find a nice broach for the grandmas to wear that you can get for $5 a piece.

Boutonniere and corsages are the most time/effort intensive pieces of the personal flowers, so 20-25 for a corsage is pretty decent. However, you can absolutely skip the grandparents -also the parents if you wish. I even had a client skip the groomsmen. No one noticed, no one cared because the rest of the bouquets and arrangements were so pretty. If mom & grandma must have a flower - a little hand tied posy is less time-consuming and therefore less expensive.

I would check with your moms first, just to make sure they are OK with what you decide.

For groomsmen, there are non-floral items that can work. I've used seashells in the past - they went with the beachy theme. Martha Stewart Weddings has a whole series of non floral boutonnieres to DIY.

I don't have any grandparents, so we weren't planning on giving FH's gma/gpa a corsage or bouts. I know his gpa would NOT want to wear one... He's one of those people...

Only our mom's will wear a corsage, and my dad will wear a bout. But that's about it...

$20 for a boutonniere?!?! Seriously?? A corsage, I could see, but a boutonniere? Any florist I've seen a simple single rose boutonniere with, perhaps a single green leaf, and wrapped in florist tape is around $7.00. Multiply that by the 7 grandparents you have, and you it comes to $49.00. Or, are you talking a combination of boutonnieres and corsages? That would be a little more, but less than $100.00, depending on the type of flowers used.

The grandparents don't have to have extravagant flowers, or flowers that "match" the bride. But they should be recognized and honored for who they are. I'm sure there is something else in your wedding that can be cut to make your grandparents happy on one of the biggest days of your (and their) lives? After all, hopefully one day you will have the honor of seeing your grandchildren married. Wouldn't you want the same honor given you?

We cut them out but that's because we have 13 grandparents, and I told them ahead of time we did it to cut costs.. I might make them myself though, who knows, or maybe we'll get some magical money fund to pay for them, LOL. If the money magically shows up we'll do it but that's probably the only way.

Easy fix - Take a rose, cut the stem off and stick a pin in it. For the corsages, add a bow. That's my sarcastic comment, but it would work. There's easy ways to get around budget busting flowers. Consider a DIY version...

My grandmom's and my mom don't even want bouts... haha... so I might just get my mom one and then do something super simple for the g-ma's myself... it doesn't save a ton of money but when you are strapped for cash i can understand that every dollar counts... just ask them if they really want one... are you having programs? they can be recognized that way....

You also could do single stem of flower. then have small vases at the reception for them to put it in.

I know how easy it is to have your feeling runaway with you. I am a fan of DIY and Costco! You can get two dozen roses any color that they have there in the store for 14.99, they also have greenry, buy some floral tape 100 yards @ A.C. Moore 3.99 and 40 corsage pins 1.99. You could do 24 bout for around 30 bucks! I will be using Costco for all my flowers!

If you skip the grandparents, I would leave them out entirely; especially if you're trying to cut down on costs. Neither one of our mothers wanted one and all the GMs have a colored handkerchief for the breast pocket of their tux; so we don't have any corsages or boutonnieres.

To save money, we are having the parents and grandparents walk down the aisle with a single flower tied with a beautiful ribbon. it was the florist's idea. she said that people do that all the time. the bouts at our florist were $30 each, these flowers with ribbons were $7 each. it helped cut costs!
