Can a wedding dress be too plain?

Sara, on June 30, 2017 at 8:45 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

I've been searching all over the internet, looking at wedding dresses, because my Mom is going to be visiting from N.J. and we're going dress shopping! I wanted to figure out all of the parts of a wedding dress that I prefer like the neckline, silhouette, and materials. It looks like I'm leaning towards a more simple dress. Why do I feel like I'm going to regret picking out a pretty, but plain dress? Here's an example of what I'm liking...

These both look like prom dresses to me.

I feel like you really need to try them on-you may be pleasantly surprised!! I love both dresses especially the one with the slit! A wedding dress doesn't need to be full of bling. It's about what makes you feel amazing!!

    I think that's lovely.

I also think its your day, and if you wanted to wear a blow-up sumo wrestler costume because that's what you feel pretty in, you should. I can't imagine a dress being too plain.

    Rock it gurl.

Mine is simple, not plain, it isn't exactly bridal. It is what I want. Anything becomes bridal with a veil though.

Really, the best thing you can do is just try on several different styles of dresses, even if you think you know what you want. I had a feeling I knew what I wanted, which is more on the simple side, but I was afraid I'd be missing out if I didn't try on some ballgowns and dresses with bling. My wedding would be the one chance in my life to dress like a princess! I tried all of them, and it turned out that my fear of dress regret was completely blown away by how much I loved my simple tulle dress with lace on the top as soon as I put it on. I was able to be more confident in my choice by having tried on different styles and silhouettes. Simple doesn't mean it's not beautiful and bridal!

When you go shopping talk to your attendant and tell her your vision. Instead of saying plain I'd say it's simple. You can always make it a touch fancier by accesorizing with a belt, jewelry, or veil

My dress is extremely plain, or simply elegant as I like to call it. I'm pairing it with a brooch bouquet with lots of bling! My family and I loves this idea as I've chosen to include brooches and pieces of jewelry from loved ones who've passed on.

The wedding dress can be whatever you want it to be...some like the traditional, romantic, dress with a little color accent, etc. A simpler dress can certainly still be elegant. Remember you will still have jewelry, veil & a bouquet if you desire. You can certainly have a seamstress add something to the dress, too.

    I think the 2 dresses look beautiful : )

I like the one on the right! The one on the left is pretty but not my style.

I think a simple dress can easily be glammed up with jewelry, a belt, hair accessory, etc.

I love the left dress. Any dress you want can be your wedding dress if that is what you want.

Most of the time you end up going for something you swore you didn't want. Everything is different when you try it on. I thought I wanted simple and ended up in love with a 3 layer all lace, hand headed strapless gown!

Most stylist will ask for your top 3 silhouettes.

I'm into pretty simple styles as well. I think the second one would look great with a belt/veil/etc added.

When I was looking online, I really thought I wanted this kind of dress. Then I went in and tried on a mermaid dress- that I thought for sure would make me look huge- and I fell in love with the silhouette.

This is a very pretty dress, and similar to what I thought I wanted- but I would highly suggest trying on all silhouette types.

My dress is fairly plain and in love it. I tried on bling-ed out ones but I'm not really into that. If you try it on and feel beautiful, then that isbyourbdress. You can always add some accessories to jazz it up a bit.
