can a bride wear a bridesmaid dress?

nikki, on March 11, 2011 at 7:07 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 33

Well im a simple girl, i hate flashy blingy big dresses with sequins and crystals and a thousand layers. ive tried on so many dresses and it seems like the simpler they are the more expensive they get. and im working with a DIY budget.

recently i've been taking into consideration buying a bridesmaid dress in ivory because i've seen so many styles i love that are simple and elegant at the same time as well as comcosting a fraction of the price as a regular bridal gown.

im just wondering if other girls are out there doing the same? if anyone has praise for the idea or horror stories.

i definetly dont want to come off as tacky to my furture family, but i do want to stay true to myself and keep things laid back and simple.

I have heard of others doing that. There are many bridesmaids dresses that are perfect for the bride too.

I say go for it. There are brides that don't wear white, that use a sun dress, that grab a dress from the mall. Whatever your preference, do it. I don't think a nice bridesmaid dress would look tacky at all. Remember its your wedding, you should do what you want to do.

Wear whatever you want! It's your wedding, wear what makes you comfortable. Just make sure that whatever bridesmaid's dresses you get have a different style & fabric so that the dress you wear still stands out.

It's pretty common. I got a really simple dress for only $300- so there are inexpensive options out there.

I know the major chains- like David's Bridal and Alfred Angelo offer the majority of their bridesmaid dresses in white or ivory as well- so there are certainly options.

My dress also comes as a bridesmaid dress as well. Check out jennyyoo.com, she has beautiful dresses without all the bling and poof (I'm a 'Mackenzie' girl).

YES!!! It's a great option for someone like you who doesn't want the blingy, huge train dress. I had a bride who wanted a hot pink wedding dress. She put on a BM dress and fell in love. Ordered it in hot pink with a black sash. Wear what you want to wear, it's your day!

Oh yes you can. When I first started looking I considered it greatly and a couple of styles went into my "inspiration list."

And you'll save a ton of money too.
