can a boring hall be turned into something nice?

Liz, on February 12, 2010 at 1:03 AM Posted in Planning 0 12

I need help, so we had our venue but it was booked just hours before we went in to book it. we are trying to find another place for the reception (we are getting married in a church) we have two options one is a historical park and the other option a plain hall. we dont have many options because pretty much everything is booked. these r the only two places that have our date available. the park turned out to be very picky, the hall lets us do whatever we want. i just dont know if the boring hall can be turned into something really nice, i was thinking of lighting and draping but dont know... can you ladies give me ideas of how we can decorate?

I would make sure the hall can really let you do what you want ... i.e. hang stuff.. if so then yeah you can do a lot with a boring hall... with lighting and fabric i hope these help you get an idea of what is possible

You are welcome ^_^ just make sure you CAN hang stuff... would hate to run into issues later on... there are ways around it to hang stuff without it hanging off the walls but its harder

Check out a local party / event rental place, they should have stuff like fabric, lighting, even large fake trees. I think it's really important in a plainer space to really create some texture and warmth. I'm a big fan of color too. Balloons are a cheap option compared to a lot of flowers - one of the photos shows one done quite tastefully I think - not too prom-ish. Setting up sheets of sheer fabric against a wall with lights behind always looks wonderful, very soft and romantic

I think lighting is one of the most important part of setting the mood for an event myself

If you do anything with fabric, make sure it's fire rated. You don't want to use just anything. Most decor companies should carry the flame certification of every type of fabric they use WITH THEM. We do. In fact, it's the law in Illinois.

I'm having mine in an empty hall. I get married Saturday and when I get the pics I'll put them up so you can see them
