Hi friends! Just another ring post but I was curious how many brides had rings witH both history and bling? Mines from 1910, champagne oval diamond (it changes color with lights), set in platinum with 14 side diamonds set in platinum but also yellow gold? Post as many pics as you want! All angles!...

Mine is an Art Deco 1920s ring it's an Old European cut center diamond surrounded by 16 single cut diamonds. We adopted it from an Antique Jewelry Store in Franklin, Tennessee. I just knew it was meant to be the second it touched my finger! I'm in LOVE with it ❤! It's 14k white gold and was already a size 5 to fit my skinny little fingers! I'm looking forward to adding decades more love to it and I too am choosing not to add a wedding band to it so as not to harm the integrity of the ring by having something rub against it. All of you who were lucky enough to find a wedding band that matches perfectly PLEASE concider soldering your rings together. I worked in a jewelry store for a decade and I'm a GIA graduate it broke my heart seeing Antique rings come in that had been worn completely flat on one or both sides from the band over time rubbing against it. We had to do so much repair & unfortunately some of the details were sacrificed in doing so. 😭😢 but I LOVE all your rings congratulations to each and every one of you! Here's mine 😊🥰😍

Wow I am obsessed with all your rings!! OP, your deco ring with the champagne diamond is really exquisite!

This is mine! From the UK made circa 1910 Edwardian/Art Nouveau era. It’s 18K yellow gold with platinum prongs. I love the natural lines of it and my three old mine cut diamonds!

So this is not my engagement ring, but it is a family heirloom with a story I love and also is what inspired my choice for my ring. This ring currently is in my mom’s possession but was given to her by her MIL upon my birth. My grandmother inherited it from her grandmother, and the story goes that when her grandfather proposed, all he had to propose with was one of these diamonds, just the diamond, no setting. Over the years he gave her two more and had it set in this band. It will be passed to me when I have my first child, or at some point my mom feels ready to pass it on. I share my grandmother’s name and since she passed before I turned one, I’ve always held tightly to the stories about her. Through ancestry, I’ve also learned that one of her grandmothers was also named Anna, but I don’t know if it was the grandmother who had this ring or not.

After reading you post about that, I looked at my grandmother’s ring that I posted about, and yes, I can see where the detail in the filigree is worn on left side of the top and right side of the bottom (I’m thinking that as it was worn and removed at night this ring was often rotated/flipped, since there’s not much of a way to distinguish top and bottom.

Do you have a recommendation for how to see about having this ring resized? I know they will have to add more gold, the band has already been stretched thin. Mom thinks I should just have the stones reset into something new like a necklace, but I’ve always been in love with the filigree of this ring more than the diamonds.

    Anna,
I would do your research on local jewelers who have a bench jewler in house to repair their & outside jewelry. That's NUMBER ONE read reviews make sure it's someone who has experience with working on jewelry first. Once you've found a place I would go talk to them, I didn't see a picture from you of the ring, but I'm guessing the filigree you're speaking of goes about halfway (possibly a little farther down the sides) an experienced bench jewler can do what we call a "half shank" which is where they would cut the ring at the bottom of the filigree work and add a new plain polished gold or platinum bottom portion to the ring therefore building it back up and getting rid of the "stretched out" potion. We did this ALL THE TIME at my jewelry store. It will not in any way harm the top side of the ring or any of the filigree work and the new gold shank will be proportionant to how the ring looked when it was new years or decades ago. At that time they will measure your finger & make the new shank they put on the size you need the ring to be. Now at my old store depending on width, our half shanks started at $150. There's no price and likewise no replacement to an heirloom piece you love. If it means that much to you if highly recommend having this done. I've seen rings get so thin through years of wear that they actually break usually at the bottom. If definitely recommend a half shank if your wanting to wear it for many years. It'll end up replacing all the damage done & you'll get back a ring that looks brand new with no more structural problems. 🥰 also have the jeweler check the ring over good to make sure there's no cracks in the undercarriage of the ring (which will also need repair) and that all the prongs holding in all the stones still look good. It's like maintenance on a car every now and again you gotta change the oil before you blow your engine. 😉 if you'd like to message me I'd be happy to help you out with any other advice I can. ❤

Thank you so much for that. Mom hasn’t worn it for years for fear of losing a diamond because she doesn’t trust the open backing. It didn’t fit me at all my early adulthood, but I’ve lost weight running and can wear it only on my left ring finger which I dont want to do because that’s where I want to wear my engagement ring. But the band is so thin that yes I’d worry about it breaking and it’s also not comfortable.

Oh yes that is mighty thin!!! I do see a crack in the undercarriage. But it's totally fixable. Anything just about can be fixed in the jewelry world! Good luck Anna! It's a special & beautiful ring!

Thanks so much, Amanda. It is super helpful to know and understand more about what I’m asking for before going in to see a jeweler. I love heritage and heirlooms and hope to be able to keep passing it down the line.

My original is not an heirloom but I've been highly considering wearing an heirloom ring from my late MIL that I was given after she passed as a second main e-ring. My original sits very high off my finger and is a prong setting so the stone is very exposed. I love it it's a natural ruby but its showing more wear than I would like. This one is from the 1980s and was actually custom handmade BY my MIL who was a jeweler for a long time. It's a deep blue bezel-prong set sapphire with a halo of diamonds set in yellow gold. It's gorgeous. Makes me feel a bit like Lady Di haha.

Here’s my engagement ring which was passed down to my fiancé. It was his great grandmothers and well over 100 years old. I love the uniqueness of it and think it’s beautiful. Just got the prongs tightened up and picked out my band! Going to get it appraised and insured also Calling all Vintage/antique and heirloom rings! 14
