Calling all Plus Size Bride...shape wear or no shape wear?

Chasity, on June 7, 2013 at 9:38 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

My wedding date is 10-19-13. I purchased my perfect gown last summer. It had a zipper back, but I am having a corset back put in. My dress is a size 22. I am on track to losing some weight, but I will still be a plus size bride. Some of my smaller size friends suggested not wearing shape wear for comfortability. I'm torn. Will my corset dress and my very supportive bra (I'm a DD) provide enough support or do you recommend I op for more supportive shape wear as well?

I think shapewear is comfortable. i like feeling that everything is in place and no lumps. but i know alot of women hate it. it think its your preference, and depends on the shape of your gown. if its form fitting, i would opt to wear shapewear so you don't have any lumps and bumps. but if it has a full skirt, then i think the bra and corset are all that's needed.

I have found, being plus size myself, that wearing most shapers is very uncomfortable. They usually roll down and you spend the whole time pulling it up. Unless it has tank straps, which dont usually mesh well with a wedding gown. Honestly, unless you are worried about looking skinny in your gown, id go without the shaper. My gown will have straps, so i will be wearing the strappy shaper.

I ordered a shapewear skirt that is high waisted and comes to my knees to wear under my dress if I decide I need to. I have worn it some so it is not too uncomfortable. I will also have a long line bra on which will help.

Think it most depends on how your dress fits you. My dress is not snug even though it will be some what fitted around my middle and hips.

My dress is poofy & the top part is a corset style....no shapewear needed lol

But, I would definitely recommend shapewear if your dress is form fitting. Not to make you look smaller necessarily, but to give you clean lines, no dimples or lines.

My dress is an A-Line skirt. The top is form fitting and will be even more so when the corset is put in. It is strapless so no shapewear with straps will work. I have purchased the perfect strapless bra, but wonder if I should add a piece that shapes the midsection and hips as well. I don't want to fuss with pulling it up or tugging on it all day.

I was initially going to wear shape wear but my dress has a corset back so I'm not wearing the shape wear I bought. I'll wear a very good strapless bra and some biker shorts because I don't like my thighs rubbing.

I'm going to try to find something comfortable that doesn't make it impossible to go to the bathroom. I may forgo it if nothing fits the bill.

I had a corset and planned to wear shapewear, but in the end I did not wear it. The corset will do all the work as long as it is tight on you like it should be

I don't think I will be wearing shapewear. My corset back seems pretty supportive! At first I did think about getting a sexy corset to go underneath but that may be too many corsets! Smiley smile At this point I want anything that will be cool and comfortable underneath that dress!

Thank you all for your input! Since the corset back has not yet been put in my dress, I am unsure if I will feel supportive enough. Going to the bathroom is also another concern! lol I might just purchase some shape wear and have it just in case!

My dress had a corset back and structured boning through the bodice, so I didn't need any shapeware on my torso. I did choose to wear spanks underneath because I wasn't wearing nylons and didn't want my thighs to get sweaty and chaff. If I'm wearing skirts or dresses, I usually like to wear something so my legs won't rub together and get irritated. But as far as the top-half goes, depending on your dress, if it's structured enough you may not feel that you need anything additional under it. Good luck!!

It would depend on the dress and how it looks on me. I will say as a bigger girl I find shape wear very uncomfortable. BUT will use it lol by the end of the night I am ready to rip it off!

Are you wearing a full bra? So it's strapless but basically ends at your waist? I agree about the rubbing of thighs. I have started to use Glide for every day skirt/dress use. I a debating on what to do for the wedding day...wedding dresses are so warm under there!

I went to DB and got a really nice and good quality "bridal bra". It's comfortable, no pokey bits. Combine that with my corset dress and my figure looks SMASHING in my dress Smiley laugh

After the reception I'm changing into a "going away" dress that will be cute and white. I'll take the bridal bra off at that point.

It's just a strapless bra from Lane Bryant. It holds my girls up beautifully! I don't usually have issues with my thighs rubbing so using a bit of powder should be enough for me. My biggest concern is my waist area. I just scheduled my first fitting so we'll see...
