Calling All March Brides!

Lindsay, on November 13, 2011 at 6:20 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

My fiance and I were planning for a May 2014 wedding. (We have already started looking because we want to book in January in order to ensure that we get our date) However, we have discovered that if we suck it up and have an off peak Friday night wedding, we will be able to save $50 per person and have it at our top choice venue. My question is, how many of you have had or are having March weddings? I am in New England so I am a little worried about changing our date due to the crazy winters we have been having and March is still a little cold. Would you guys change your date in order to have your reception at your top venue?

Tough question, but we did just have snow in October, so who can tell....Friday is becoming more and more popular (probably for the exact reason you are considering it) and I do many weddings in March. I just wonder about doing BOTH of those things; a cold month and a slightly more inconvenient day. Still 50.00 a person is a lot of money.

Are they offering a discount for booking this early, cause it is WAY early?

No it is not a discount for booking early. It is just their policy. If you have it on a Saturday during any month other than January, February, and March, it is 119.95 per person. If you do it on a Friday it is 109.95 per person. If you do it during off peak during January, February, and March on a Saturday it is 89.95 per person and then the Friday is 79.95 per person. Then tax and gratuity, of course. We still have more venues to look at but this place is like a fairytale venue. It is everything anyone could dream of. Now we might find somewhere else that is like this but so far this is it. We are paying for it by ourselves so the 50.00 per person will make a huge dent and we might even be able to move the wedding forward at that point. It comes to saving a total of $11,000.

Yikes. Honestly? I'd cut the guest list in half and have it on the Saturday in May. March in New England is going to be cold; you can't count on having any part of this outside if that's part of your ideal wedding vision.....

Keep in mind too (and I know this is a really elementary concept) that for every 10 less people, you need one less centerpiece, 10 less favors, 5 less invite suites. ALL of that stuff adds up quick when you look at a group that large.

I agree that March in New England is going to be cold in March... and most likely not just a little cold. If its an entirely indoors wedding, it could be okay. You would just freeze your butt off if you want to take any outdoor photos. You also run the risk of bad weather inconveniencing people's travels. However it's ultimately up to you and if March fits with the overall vision for your wedding.

I don't plan on having any part of it outside except for pictures. My concern would be having dirty snow on the ground for pictures and possibly some snow that would prevent out of town family from getting there. It's impossible to cut the guest list because we both have large families.

@FutureMrsOhler - My vision is very pink with roses and lilies. The end of March is still spring but I'm also not sure if it would fit.
