Calling 6k budget brides

Marissa, on March 30, 2019 at 5:31 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
Hi! My fiancé and I are hoping to keep our wedding at 6k max. What are your words from the wise and tips? 🙂 it’s not until next year!

So far we have paid our venue off ($1800), DJ deposit paid ($200 of $725), photographer will be $1100 (but not included in our budget), and I’m figuring food at $2000 from looking at our caterers prices for 100 guests including alcohol. Flowers tbd, but I told her I won’t spend more than $500-600. Side note, I live in a small town so It’s more feasible with this budget and that number of guests than more metropolitan areas.

I know that’s not everything but it covers the main bases. What do you wish you had or skipped out on based on cost?

We started out with a 6k budget but my fiancé’s guest list sort of blew that out of the water. Do you mind my asking what area you’re near? Those catering prices with the alcohol included sound amazing.

I cheated on the budget by picking up things here and there that I didn't take out of the budget, just my weekly "spending money" I guess. Things like shoes, cake stand, flower girl (my daughter) dress, getting ready outfit, etc. We also started planning early so I've been able to spread the smaller stuff out.

We planned for an $8,000 budget and it's been $6,000 so far. Our biggest tip is to keep a small guest list, that's the easiest way to keep a low budget wedding.

$2,000 with food and alcohol is a great deal! We started our budget at about $6k and has grown to about $12k Smiley smile

Don’t get flowers. They’re so expensive and they die. All we did was get tiny bouquets.

I didn't do this but my best friend had a $5,000 budget and I did a lot of the planning myself. The thing she regrets the most is not having a separate reception venue for guests to go to after the wedding. At the time she didn't understand why a lot of people thought this might be a good idea. She got married at a zoo because it was affordable and surprisingly beautiful for her ceremony but it was not the right atmosphere or weather for guests to feel comfortable dancing, etc so after dinner pretty much everyone immediately left like they would at a birthday party and it made her really sad. She tells everyone that it is her biggest regret but her big day was wonderful regardless. She also wishes that she would have at least rented / purchased better quality decor and not just plastic table clothes.

I did DIY flowers from Amazon, but I wish I had just purchased pre-made fake bouquets instead of trying to do them myself.
