Cake! Why you so expensive?!

Dropped $1000 on a cake this weekend. I'll be happy 11/28/15 simply because I can stop hemorrhaging money.

We just had our first tasting a few weeks ago and I had such sticker shock. The three tier, very very basic cake we want will be $500 including delivery. I've been putting off going to this other bakery just because it depresses me. I priced out cupcakes and for what we would want plus the annoyance of finding a stand etc. it would be almost the same anyway, and I think that is the one thing I've always really wanted - a pretty cake. My aunt wants to pay for it though and doesn't care about the cost, so. :-/ Ugh. Money.

    Because it's art.

Good artists aren't cheap. Cheap artists aren't good.

Generally speaking, of course. Plus, you have the added stress of a one-time event, a wedding. That's why it's expensive. You are hiring a bunch of artists for your day!

Really? We're having 5 cakes and 12 cupcakes. Each cake will be decorated differently too. We paid about $450 and it's with one of the highest rated companies in Phoenix.

Im keeping my cake the simple of the simple, 4 tiers with a solid separation between each tier in silver no decoration on the cake itself at all clean and crisp icing. Then I'm getting a personalised cake topper made and the florist is going to place succulents strategically on the cake for simple decoration. Thats costing about £250/$380.

This is why we're getting multiple, regular cakes from a bakery and having a "cake buffet."
