Cake vs Dessert

herecometheclarks, on August 28, 2016 at 4:51 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 26

What are your thoughts on having just cake as the dessert for a wedding? Are we expected to have other desserts as well?

Just cake will do! That's what most people do.

I believe cake is enough as long as their is a slice for everyone.

    That's all I had.

I went to a wedding with a dessert bar and I ignored everything but the cake. I love cake!

We are only having cake. No other desserts. Your baker will make a cake big enough for how many people you tell them you're inviting so there should be enough.

Weddings I have been to have always had a plated dessert with dinner (something other than cake), and then the wedding cake is cut and served later in the evening along with a big dessert bar.

That isn't required though, you can certainly just serve wedding cake.

In a lot of cases, I've seen cake just picked over or forgotten. Do you like cake? Have you longed for it at others weddings? If you just like sweets a nice dessert table would do. We're doing a small cake for cutting purposes and having a really nice dessert table. I even found this nice vendor who does take-a-cake, small plastic jars with layered cake and icing in them. Whatever flavor you choose, and you can have cute customized labels put on them as well.

I thought the idea was super cute and that way your guests could just take the cake home with them, instead of having to cut and waste a lot of cake!

Weddings mean cake. If you don't want a cake, desserts suffice.

At the weddings that I've been to that offered both, it was overkill and waaaay distracting and no one ate the cake..

ETA by my own logic - i have contradicted myself. I say choose cake but then I say when people have to choose both they choose dessert... cause they do - the cake is usually eaten or taken just a bite of" out of obligation......

We were going to do just cake. Because we love cake! Until we found out our venue offers peanut butter pie, mini tiramisu, mini creme brûlée, and mini key lime pies. My FH lovesssss peanut butter pie and key lime pie so we of course had to order the mini desserts.

That does sound good! Our venue is my church's parish life center and doesn't have that option. But it sounds like a great one!!

Just cake is perfectly fine! If you know that you have any guests with food allergies (gluten, egg, dairy, nut, etc.), make sure you have a safe dessert option for them. But just cake as the main dessert is completely fine!

I have a cousin who's gluten free so we're taking that into consideration too. Thanks WWLaura and everyone else! I love wedding cake and I thought it would be enough but the more you get into it the more you see extravagant weddings and start to doubt yourself. But I appreciate y'all!!!

We are having just cake. I've been to weddings where they have the extras and people do go for them but most of the time people grab a lot and end up picking at and wasting a lot and then also take cake and pick and waste it.

If there's only cake there won't be as much food thrown away at the end of the night

What is this just cake (like that's the worst thing in the world)? It's freaking cake! Who would turn down free cake? I would be perfectly content to sit and eat my little slice of heaven as long as it tastes good.

I'm just doing cake. I'm hoping there is some left over so I can eat cake the next day. I'll smuggle it out of the reception under my dress if I have to!

Cake is traditional and is completely fine. I've never even been to a wedding with other desserts.
