I am having 3 different flavored cupcakes and a little cake for FH and I to cut! I just love the idea of cupcakes so much more than cake. We are also counting the cupcakes as "favors" and getting little cupcake boxes for people to take theirs home if they didn't get to eat it at the reception!

Pros: one cake symbolizes the joining of two families into one community, tradition, looks pretty, you can do an awesome and fun cake topper

Con: Like jeans, cupcakes (even really nice expensive ones) belong at children's birthday parties, not weddings.

I can really only enjoy cupcakes in the privacy of my own home. I don't know how to eat them without making a mess or looking like a monster. At a wedding, I'd prefer something I could eat with a fork.

I eat cup cakes with a fork- but I eat most things with a fork-

ETA: I think either is fine- loads of people have either-or and both at weddings

I've seen cupcakes at weddings and it's usually a really pretty display. As long as you have a small cake for you and FH to cut, that's all you need.

We're going to have cup cakes at our wedding and probably a small cake for us. We're going to do three flavors/our wedding colors are purple, black, and grey. Here are some setups I found on Pinterest:

I personally prefer the look of a wedding cake and how formal it can look. Cupcakes make me think of children's birthday parties and IMO don't belong in a wedding.

We are doing cupcakes just so we can have a bunch of different flavors and different icings. Not a fan or different layers of cake being different flavors. Cake is cake, no one cares how traditional it is...

We plan on having a smaller cake made for us (10 inch bottom, 6 inch top), a few sheet cakes, and about 60 cupcakes also. That way people can get what they want! We are having about 130 guests.

I think cupcakes that are done nicely are a great idea. Although, personally, I'm not a huge fan. I'm not sure why, I would just rather have cake and then some other desserts. My FH and I are going to do a small, formal wedding cake that will serve about 25 people and then have sheet cake. Plus we'll have some pies and cheesecakes as well. Maybe even some other ideas. I think that as long as everything looks nice (and yummy!), it doesn't matter what you have. Guests will be happy as long things are presented nicely.

We are doing both. A small cake for cutting, sheet cakes and mini cupcakes for the kids.

Cupcakes are nice because you can have ONE. TWO. However many... a piece of cake once it's cut is cut.

Our venue pays for our cake. Otherwise I would do cupcakes Smiley smile

For our wedding, cupcakes are what the guests will be having, since i think cake dries out too quickly after, especially if not covered, and then a small two tier cake for my fiancee and i to have. That way one tier we eat and the other we save for our one year wedding anniversary

UO; I don't like cupcakes, and the concept of a cake is really to have everyone share in one cake with you.

We are doing a small cake and cupcakes. The only reason I wanted to do cupcakes was because I though back to other weddings I have been to and I don't think I ever ate the the cake. I figured cupcakes are easier.

I love cupcakes and would rather eat them than cake. However, make sure the icing isn't colored as it can stain teeth and lips.

Since I have dietary restrictions we are ordering special cupcakes, the baker does cakes but I have a small handful of guests who are gluten free and dairy free so doing cupcakes means anyone who wants cake gets some. I think it's a know your crowd. We will also have a dessert bar that I won't be allowed to touch Smiley smile
