Cake toppers - nay or yay?

Kathryn, on October 21, 2019 at 9:12 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 34
So as we're planning to meet with the bakery that will probably be doing our cake, it occurred to me that I'm not sure about the cake topper. Looking around at pictures online and pinterest, it seems like not too many people are doing the traditional cake topper. I always had my heart set one of the more traditional groom and bride toppers, but are those just out of style? Or do people just use flowers/names?

Do whatever you want! There's nothing wrong with doing what's in style, but there's also nothing wrong with the classics either.

Daughter had an adorable custom made B&G cake topper (Lollipop Workshop on Etsy). It looked EXACTLY like her, SIL & their little dog! Smiley winking Smiley heart

Their cake was a traditional, three-tier cake with a spatula-finish. The Topper was on the top (obviously?), and then there were small clusters of roses at the base of each of the three layers. It was very pretty.

It is all about your preference! If you want a cake topper, go for it! If not, don't worry about it. I have seem a mix of both. But I assure you, cake toppers are definitely still a thing and they're very much still a trend. I have seen lots of beautiful cakes without toppers though. I had a cake topper and I absolutely loved it. We had an acrylic cake topper that I had custom made on Etsy. Here are photos of my topper and my entire cake. I say if you had your heart set on one, get it!!! You can always decide on flavors and the general design of your cake and tell the baker you're thinking you'll want to add a cake topper, but you haven't found one yet. I'm sure they'll work with you.

We will just have a simple cake; White 3 tiered cake with italian ruscus (greenery) added to it. No cake topper for us

Do what you have your heart set on!

I haven't seen many people use the traditional porcelain figures lately, but they're still a classic. The acrylic silhouette option is also nice.

We're having some more trendy elements in our wedding while incorporating more traditional things. For the cake topper in particular, we're skipping it altogether.

They’re not out of style at all! I actually wanted one at first but after picking my cake I thought I wouldn’t look cute with that style in particular

That is amazing!!! I love the flowers and the cute little script on the sides. I like the idea of a silhouette but probably still have my heart set on a porcelain figurine.

    Do what you want!! (:
I have a more rustic theme so I like the laser cut wood toppers, but if you’re going more traditional, I say get exactly what you had your heart set on!

It really boils down to what you and your FS want Smiley smile everyone is different. There are tons of ways to make the "traditional" cake toppers more fun! or you can keep them the way they are. Just look around and see what you like. you never know what you might stumble upon. Classic is never a bad idea!

Etsy! We are personally opting for words. It's a Christmas Wedding and our cake topper says "tis the season to be married". But I sent a ton of cute bride and groom ones on etsy, as well as several other really creative ones I'd never have thought of. They even have some that will personalize them and make the little people look exactly like you and your fiance!

Oh no girl definitely not out of style. And even if it was bring it back haha do what you love!! I’ve seen so many beautiful traditional bride and groom cake toppers I myself was actually going to buy one but I decided to go with two bird salt and pepper shakers my grandmother got me. I’ve also seen where people use their grandparents cake toppers on the cake, those are sometimes over 50 yeas old Idk i just love it. I say do it one hundred percent.

Do whatever you want or nothing at all! its all your preference. If you choose not to do an actual topper, the baker can usually decorate with frosting flowers or just about anything.

My FH and I decided on peacocks because the only keepsakes I absolutely wanted (outside of pics of course) were our bridal table centerpiece (2 blue crystal swans) and the cake topper. I gave my FH a choice between a blue/green cloth flower and the peacocks.

For my almost, LotR wedding, i was going to use a miniature ship and have the cake decorated to look like an ocean. I loved it and my ex did not but it felt wrong to reuse the idea even if the first didn't actually happen.

I suppose my point is that the sky is the limit you can do whatever you want. any small ornament can serve as a cake topper. It doesn't have to be specifically meant for it.

There are so many options out there! I've seen a few different people have Willow Tree figurines as their cake topper. Or you can have a custom porcelain figurine designed for you guys! Etsy has so many amazing things, I'd check there! I'd say one of the biggest pros to a cake topper is it truly makes your cake custom and makes it your own... it makes it one of a kind! Even if someone else had the exact same cake, their's would be different because they wouldn't have your cake topper.

Did a quick etsy search, and I'm pleasantly surprised at the variety of bride and groom figurine toppers!!! They're just what my little heart wanted. I think I almost squealed with how absolutely adorable some of them are. Definitely the direction I'm going to go I think, because my FH loves my quirky love of figurines adorable.

Haha I will definitely bring it back! A figurine topper is kind of perfect because I really wanted a keepsake that I could display after, so I will definitely keep you guys updated on my search! Especially since etsy let's you customize.
