Cake tastings

Katelyn, on October 17, 2019 at 12:41 AM Posted in Planning 0 3
Hi everyone! So the next piece of planning I am working on is the part I am most excited about- the cake! I love to bake so I am a bit particular when it comes to taste. I have found a few bakeries that are very similar in style and the exact same pricing. I figured that our tasting/consultations would be the deciding factor. However, when scheduling a consultation online, some of the wording made it seem like it was assumed the bakery had the job. Those who had more than one cake tasting, how did you approach? I don’t want to feel obligated to select a baker just because I attend a tasting.

What was the exact wording of what you saw? At one of my tastings we signed an unofficial contract in the event that we would book with them so they would have all of our cake information. It would not have been official until after the actual deposit was made in the event that we chose that baker. I would say to definitely be specific that you are currently browsing with other vendors and that this is just a tasting to help you in your decision.

It’s was something like “after your tasting and design consultation a deposit of 25% will be due” I took that as in that day, but I suppose it could mean after the consultation in general.

    Hey Katelyn!

I too would be very excited about this part of planning! What flavor(s) are you considering or your cake?

If you’re unsure of the language when booking the consultation online, perhaps you would be more comfortable reaching out the the bakery via telephone to book? You could explain how you’re visiting different bakeries and not in a position to commit to a booking before a tasting. They may be able to clarify the policy and help with any confusion!
