Cake pricing

Erika, on February 21, 2017 at 7:19 PM Posted in Planning 0 41

Did anyone else get quotes all across the board?

We are having a max of 60 guests. I am wanting a simple one tier semi naked cake that has some fruit& real flowers on top. I will supply the flowers.

We are also wanting a kitchen cake that will be served to the guests to keep cost down. Both of the cakes will be the same icing, flavors etc..just one will be fancier and on display.

I have given the same info to all of the bakers and have gotten quoted as high as $500.00! Today someone quoted me $150.00 and her cake and buttercream were hands down the BEST ones yet!

How much are your cakes costing you?

Our quotes ranged anywhere from $3-$5 per slice. We ended up going with the place that was $5 per slice for 80 people.

I figured on $200-$400 for our cake. I have been surprised by the differences in pricing that I've been getting. Honestly the place that quoted me the most had really dry samples for me to try. I'm assuming they were frozen.

Andrea, $75 for 150 people seems too cheap. Have you tried their cakes or seen the quality of their cakes? Is this a reputable baker?

Eta: if my math is correct, that's .50 cents per piece which is alarming. Usually gourmet wedding cakes, especially one like yours that you posted a photo of above, cost a lot more than that.

$197 for 75 people. $2.50 a slice is what the normal here is.

Ours is $5 per person. I'd be nervous about $150 for 60 people, especially because naked cakes are hard to do well, but I guess it depends on the area.

I'm with MTM. Andrea, I would be very, very wary. When something sounds too good to be true it probably is. $75 would be unlikely to even cover the cost of the supplies to make a cake like that. Ingredients are not cheap. This baker would basically be donating his or her time and paying you to take their hard work and raw materials.

What I have seen range anywhere from $2.50 (way cheap small town place) to closer to $10 per person for a super fancy bakery.

Andrea is probably getting a grocery store cake .. which is perfectly fine.. just not gourmet...

My cake is 390 bucks (includes tax and delivery) and feeds 70. Inspo picture.. we are gaving all buttercream and fewer flowers also made of buttercream... and no silver beads

@a&w I would normally be weary, this lady owns a bakery in my town and has tons of online reviews. She has a WW vendor page and a 5 star rating. Plus I was able to taste the cake today so I'm sold lol.

Even a grocery store cake would cost more than that.

Exactly. I just bought a grocery store cake yesterday. Plain sheet cake, no fancy decorations, no fillings, just cake and basic whipped frosting came to about $1.10 per serving.
