Does anybody know the average cost of a 3 tier, buttercream (no fondant), round layers, with ribbon around the bottom of each layer, cake in the Houston, TX area is? I have no clue what is reasonable and what a possible rip-off is. Any insight on cake prices is more than appreciated Thank you so...

My cake was a little pricey, but I wanted a custom cake (vanilla bean cheesecake with a chocolate flourless cake with chocolate ganache and folded in raspberries topped with a buttercream frosing and fondant), there was also nice design work at $9.00/slice for 30 people $270.

Yea, I know pricey but it was my main splurge. I had a similar cake for a birthday a few years ago in a different city, different baker but this cake was orgasmic! People at that party still talk about that cake to this day.

My problem was trying to negotiate the cake cutting fee, my reception is in a private dining room of a restaurant and they wanted to charge $3.50 per person to cut the cake. I negotiated it to $20 for the entire cake.

An cost effective alternative is www.ultimatefakecakes.com and an added sheet cake for serving! I love this idea and it gives you the luxury look that you desire in your theme without the huge cost, which is usually 4.50 per slice. Liz is awesome there and will take good care of you. She can personalize and copy any magazine cake and you can spend the other money elsewhere. Check it out!

Well - I'm excited Smiley smile I called a local bakery that has been in business for years. My mom uses them for all of the parties that she puts together for work and she knows of ladies who have used them for their wedding. I called and described what I am am looking for and she told me that it would be $2 a slice. So, for the amount of people we are inviting, it would be $270 for the cake. It would be 3 tiers, buttercream (I don't want fondant), and if we would like a design and filling, it is all included in the price already. That is a lot cheaper than what I was expecting. WooHoo! Thank you for all of the advice everybody. I greatly appreciate it!
