I just bought a matching cake knife and server from anthropologie for $12 each so with shipping and tax it was $32 i dont think thats too bad.

the Thrift store champagne glasses is a good idea too. and i am sure you could find a serving set also.

My were gifted to me by my mom. Otherwise I would have skipped them and used a butter knife if I had to.

My FILs got us pretty toasting flutes as an engagement gift, so we'll just those, but I don't feel like buying a special cake cutting set. I did put a plain cake cutting set on our registry for everyday use, so if someone buys that for us before the wedding, we'll use it. Otherwise we'll just use whatever the venue provides.

I wasn't going to but I found the glasses at Joann's for $10 and the cutting set for $10 at Tuesday Morning. The cutting set I figured I could use in the future, in fact we already used it for my son's christening.

I am not buying toasting glasses, e will use the same ones as everyone else. I did get a server set because I found an awesome antique one for $20 at an antique show.

I added both to our registry... If we get them then cool, otherwise im sure the venue has something. As for flutes, I bought bride and groom ones for 50 cents each at a garage sale since it's tradition to smash those (the more pieces they break into the more luck and money we will have) and I was not about to smash $50± ones

Its up to you completely. Its not necessary unless you want it. I plan to have champagne flutes, cake/knife server, and mr. mrs forks. but I like little details like that. Its not something i pay attention to at other weddings though.
